Why the Delay

The stated reason is the usual one, but it is at least stated. According to a report from Japanese anime news site Anime Anime, Shueisha Games says it moved the release out of 2026 so it can deliver the game to players in better shape. A specific 2027 date will come later.

The game was only revealed in June, during the Nintendo Direct on June 9, 2026, so a slip of this size this early suggests the team wants more room than a single fall window allowed. Nothing else about the scope has changed. The platforms are still Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, and the game still supports one to eight players, with online matches for up to eight and a solo mode for anyone who wants to grind alone. Price and age rating are still undecided.

A quick recap: poncle is the studio founded by Luca Galante that made Vampire Survivors, and Rumble: Survivaton takes that loop and drops it into Gege Akutami's world. You play as a Jujutsu Kaisen character, fight swarms of cursed spirits, get stronger mid-match, and then compete with rival players to be the last one standing.

Eight Bosses in Pixel Art

The second trailer, posted to the Shueisha Games YouTube channel, is where the actual new content lives. It opens with the new key visual that debuted last month at Jujufes 2026, the series' fifth-anniversary fan event, and then runs through attack footage for the playable characters in the TGS build.

The bigger reveal is the boss lineup. Naoya Zenin and Kenjaku were first shown at Jujufes, and the trailer adds six more: Junpei Yoshino, Jogo, Mahito, Uraume, Eso, and Toji Fushiguro. That makes eight bosses total, each shown in pixel-art animation in poncle's style. All eight show up in the Tokyo Game Show playtest build, so anyone who gets hands-on time this week will be fighting them.

The trailer also explains how the game reworks the Vampire Survivors build system. In the original, leveling up lets you stack weapons and techniques into a screen-filling attack build. Here that idea becomes what Shueisha Games calls a "co-op build." Leveling up still upgrades your own character's normal attacks, but you can also fold other characters' normal attacks into your own build, which is meant to make the match feel like fighting alongside your allies even when you are competing against them.

The World's First Playtest at TGS 2026

Tokyo Game Show 2026 runs September 17 through 21 at Makuhari Messe, the convention center just outside Tokyo, and the Shueisha Games booth in Hall 5 (05-C10) hosts the first public playtest anywhere. The build is an online battle royale for eight players. Everyone competes for points during the match, the top two point scorers advance to a one-on-one final, and the winner of that duel takes the round.

Shueisha Games is upfront that the build is still being tuned, and it will be running a survey at the booth. Matches will be streamed on the booth screen with live commentary from esports casters, so spectators get a decent look at the game without waiting in line.

There is also swag. Anyone who wishlists the game or plays the demo gets a pixel sticker and paper fan set. The stickers come in ten designs, one for each of the ten characters on the key visual, drawn in poncle's pixel art. Every set includes a Yuji Itadori sticker plus one random pick from the other nine. The fan has a Yuji illustration drawn by MAPPA specifically for the game on the front and a pixel-art scene of cursed spirits swarming the screen on the back. Playtest winners get the complete ten-sticker set. Supplies are limited, and the giveaway may end early.

Looking Ahead

The next concrete beat is the TGS playtest itself, September 17 to 21. After that, watch for Shueisha Games to announce a firm 2027 release date; the source article says the date will be announced separately.

International availability is not in question here. The game has an official English site, and wishlist pages are already live on Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Store, with the Switch 2 version listed on the same site. The Jujutsu Kaisen manga itself finished its Weekly Shonen Jump run in 2024 at 30 volumes and has passed 150 million copies in circulation worldwide, digital included, while the third TV anime season covering the first half of the Culling Game aired from January through March 2026. In short, the overseas audience is already there. The only open question is which month in 2027 it lands.
