Two Fantasy Worlds Meet in a Single Frame

The crossover visual brings together protagonists from both series for the first time. Rozemyne, the book-obsessed noble from Ascendance of a Bookworm, and Coco, the young witch apprentice from Witch Hat Atelier, stand side by side holding their signature items: Rozemyne clutching a book and Coco with her magic circle notebook. Both characters wear sparkling, curious expressions. Behind them, Ferdinand and Qifrey, the mentor figures from their respective series, look on.

The collaboration pairs Wit Studio's (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan seasons 1-3) adaptation of Miya Kazuki's light novel with BUG FILMS' take on Kamome Shirahama's Kodansha manga. Both anime debuted in April 2026 and air on TOKYO MX on different nights. Ascendance of a Bookworm airs Saturdays at 5:30 PM on Nippon TV, while Witch Hat Atelier airs Mondays at 11:00 PM on TOKYO MX.

The visual was reported by Japanese media outlet Oricon alongside the interview, with additional collaborative projects planned for the future.

Kazuki and Shirahama Talk Adaptations

The creator interview, now live on the official Ascendance of a Bookworm and Witch Hat Atelier anime websites, features the two authors discussing their approaches to seeing their work adapted into anime. According to Oricon, the pair spoke at length about the adaptation process.

Shirahama admitted to being nervous about meeting Kazuki, an author she admired, while Kazuki praised Shirahama's use of language and artistic skill. The two first connected through an OVA booklet collaboration and have kept up a friendship since, most recently meeting at a March 2026 anime screening event.

For readers unfamiliar with one or both series: Ascendance of a Bookworm follows Myne, a book-loving girl reborn into a medieval fantasy world without printed books, who works her way from commoner to noble in pursuit of reading. The current anime season, subtitled Adopted Daughter of an Archduke, covers her life in the aristocracy. Witch Hat Atelier follows Coco, an ordinary girl who discovers that magic is real and apprentices under a witch named Qifrey, uncovering dangerous secrets about the magical world along the way.

Looking Ahead

Both series are currently streaming on Crunchyroll worldwide. Witch Hat Atelier offers a same-day English dub, while Ascendance of a Bookworm streams with subtitles.

For fans who want to read ahead, the Ascendance of a Bookworm light novel is published in English by J-Novel Club, and the Witch Hat Atelier manga is available from Kodansha USA.

The official accounts for both series have promised further collaborative projects beyond the visual and interview, though no specifics have been shared yet. Details will be posted on both official sites and their X accounts as they're announced.
