Subaru's Worst Nightmare Comes From Within
The Pleiades Watchtower arc has already put Subaru through the wringer. He lost his memories, died twice via Return by Death, and spent the last several episodes piecing together who he even is. Episode 10 escalates that horror in the most personal way possible.
According to the synopsis released by Animate Times, Subaru's consciousness cuts out, and when it returns, Meili Portroute's corpse lies in front of him. Carved into his arm: "Natsuki Subaru was here." It is exactly the gut-punch this arc has been building toward.
Subaru hides the body and tries to regroup, but Beatrice discovers a Book of the Dead bearing Meili's name in the Watchtower's library. Subaru reads it on behalf of the group, reliving Meili's lonely past and the truth behind her death. The deeper he sinks into the book, the more his own memories dissolve into hers. A voice whispering "I" begins echoing sweetly in his mind.
