The Team Banners Get the Fine-China Treatment
Every design in the lineup is built around the cloth banner that hangs over each school's cheering section, its slogan rendered in English for the mug art. Karasuno's mug centers a crow in flight with the English translation of its 「飛べ」 ("Fly") banner. Aoba Johsai's design scatters plants and greenery around 「コートを制す」 ("Rule the Court"). Nekoma pairs a cat with 「繋ぐ」 ("Connect"), Fukurodani puts an owl next to 「一球入魂」 (a four-character motto about pouring your soul into every ball), and Inarizaki closes the set with a fox and its coolly anti-sentimental 「思い出なんかいらん」 banner (roughly "we don't need memories").
According to the report from Japanese anime news site Anime Anime, each mug also carries coloring inspired by its school, laid over Noritake's bone china. These are full-size mugs at about 310ml, and they are microwave-safe, so the pitch is everyday use: coffee, black tea, green tea, milk, or soup, at your desk or on the breakfast table.
Noritake Is Not Your Usual Anime Collab Partner
Noritake has been making porcelain in Nagoya since 1904, built its early business exporting Western-style dinnerware to the United States, and added bone china to its lineup in 1930. This is china-cabinet stock, not a print-on-demand mug.
The specs read accordingly. Each mug measures roughly 8.3cm across the mouth, 11.3cm at its widest point, and 10cm tall, and weighs about 221g. They are made-to-order at ¥10,450 (about $70) apiece, and pre-orders for all five designs are open now through AMNIBUS, the Japanese made-to-order merchandise site handling the release.
Looking Ahead
The mugs land in the middle of a busy stretch for the franchise. Haruichi Furudate's volleyball manga, which ran in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump, has two anime projects dated for 2027: the theatrical film Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant, which pits Karasuno against Kamomedai, and the special anime Haikyu!! The Place Where Monsters Go, which covers Fukurodani versus Mujinazaka. Production I.G, the studio behind the TV series and the films, continues on both. The 2027 slate follows Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, which opened on February 16, 2024 and passed ¥20 billion (approx. $130 million) at the worldwide box office.
As for the mugs themselves, the AMNIBUS listing covers Japan, and no international release has been announced. Fans outside Japan who want to see the banners in their natural habitat can stream the series on Crunchyroll and Netflix.
