A Kodansha Award Winner Heads to the Screen
Fall in Love, You False Angels, the shojo rom-com serialized in Kodansha's Dessert magazine, is getting a TV anime adaptation. Japanese manga news site Comic Natalie reported on June 12 that the series will air sometime in 2027, though no specific season, studio, or staff have been announced.
To mark the occasion, manga creator Coco Uzuki (卯月ココ) released a commemorative illustration. The anime has also launched official social media accounts on X and Instagram.
The manga debuted in Dessert in April 2023 and currently runs at seven volumes, with the latest hitting shelves on June 12, 2026. It won the 49th Kodansha Manga Award in the shojo category in 2025, sharing that year's honors with Versus and Historie.
Two 'Perfect' Students, Zero Honest Moments
The series centers on Katsura Otogi, a girl universally regarded as a flawless beauty at her school. She maintains a carefully constructed public persona, but one day her classmate Ninomae Toki (一刻) catches a glimpse of who she really is behind the mask. The twist: Toki, the boy everyone considers kind and perfect, is hiding a side of his own. What follows is a push-and-pull rom-com built on mutual bluffing, where two people who know each other's secrets have to decide whether to keep faking it or drop the act.
With 2.25 million copies in circulation, the series has built a sizable readership. It also placed ninth in the comics category of the Kono Manga ga Sugoi!-adjacent Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Taisho (Next Big Manga Award) in both 2024 and 2025.
Looking Ahead
No animation studio, director, or cast have been revealed yet, so the 2027 broadcast window is the only concrete timeline. Production details will likely surface through the anime's newly created X account in the months ahead.
For English-speaking readers who want to get ahead of the adaptation, Kodansha USA licensed the manga for English release, announced at Sakura-Con 2024. The series is also available digitally through Kodansha's K Manga app. With a Kodansha Manga Award and an anime adaptation confirmed, Fall in Love, You False Angels is set to reach a wider audience in 2027.
