Subaru Wakes Up Next to a Corpse

The official preview from Japanese entertainment site eeo Media paints the season's darkest setup yet. Episode 10 (overall Episode 76), titled "Satsujin wa Kuse ni Naru" (roughly, "Murder Becomes a Habit"), opens with Subaru regaining consciousness to find Meili's body lying in front of him. Worse, the phrase "Natsuki Subaru was here" is scrawled across his own arm.

Subaru hides the corpse and retreats, but the damage is already spreading. Beatrice discovers a Book of the Dead in the library bearing the full name Meili Portroute. Subaru takes on the task of reading it for the group, plunging into Meili's memories to witness her isolated childhood and the truth of how she died.

The synopsis warns that Subaru dives too deep. His memories start bleeding into Meili's, and a voice identifying itself only as "watashi" begins whispering sweetly inside his mind. For a show built on Subaru losing himself, this is a literalization of the concept: someone else's life overwriting his own.

The Watchtower Arc's Pressure Keeps Building

Re:Zero Season 4, produced at animation studio WHITE FOX under director Masahiro Shinohara, has been adapting the Pleiades Watchtower storyline from Tappei Nagatsuki's light novel series published by KADOKAWA. The arc traps Subaru and his companions inside a massive tower filled with trials, Books of the Dead, and threats that can't be solved by Return by Death alone.

Last week's Episode 9, "Zangai" (Remnants), ended with Subaru ascending to the tower's fourth layer carrying what the source describes as "kyōki" (murderous intent). Episode 10 picks up the consequences of that climb directly.

The season's opening theme, "Recollect" by Konomi Suzuki and Ashnikko, and its ending theme, "Ender Ember" by MYTH & ROID and TK from Ling Tosite Sigure, both reinforce the arc's psychological horror tone. The episode title itself, "Murder Becomes a Habit," suggests the worst is far from over.

Looking Ahead

Episode 10 airs today, June 10, 2026, and streams on Crunchyroll with both English subtitles and an English dub for viewers in North America, Europe, Latin America, Oceania, and other territories.

The current run covers the first 11 episodes of the "Loss Arc." After that wraps, the "Recapture Arc" begins on August 12, 2026, adding eight more episodes for a 19-episode total. Nagatsuki's original light novel series is published in English by Yen Press, with the web novel also partially available in fan translations for readers who want to get ahead of the anime.

The official web preview for Episode 10 is available now on the Re:Zero official YouTube channel.
