Hitogami Gets a Speech That Belonged to Someone Else

Late in "Turning Point 4," Rudeus (Yumi Uchiyama) falls asleep and wakes up in the white space where Hitogami (Kujira) holds court. Viewers noted it had been a while since his last appearance. Hitogami works through a checklist of how well things are going: Rudeus has made Perugius's acquaintance, and Atofe has taken a liking to him. Rudeus counters that he might not have survived at all without the Water King-rank magic Roxy taught him. Hitogami agrees, calling it a rare spell that ignores tōki and physically paralyzes the flesh instead.
The man from Rudeus's past life (Tomokazu Sugita) has no idea what tōki is. So Hitogami explains: it is a technique that uses the magic power inside the body to raise physical ability.
Web novel readers spotted the swap immediately. In the original text on Shousetsuka ni Narou, the Japanese novel-posting site where the series began, that answer comes from the immortal demon Badigadi in chapter 80, "A Day at the Magic University," where he puts it as tōki simply being magic power. Handing the line to Hitogami instead drew a wave of approving comments in the reaction roundup compiled by Japanese anime news site Anime Anime, with fans praising the decision to let Hitogami deliver the lecture.
Rifujin na Magonote addressed the change on social media, writing that the tōki explanation had been skipped back during Season 2, so it went in here. Retrofitting previously cut material is hard work when the whole production is short on runtime, the author added.
Where Season 3 Sits Right Now
Mushoku Tensei began as Rifujin na Magonote's web novel in 2012, following a 34-year-old shut-in who dies and is reborn in a fantasy world as the boy Rudeus Greyrat, determined to take the second life seriously using the memories and regrets of the first. Studio Bind has handled every episode since the January 2021 premiere, with Ryōsuke Shibuya directing this season and co-writing the series composition with Naoto Yachi.
Season 3 opened on July 5, 2026 with the Eris Training arc, which centers on Eris Greyrat's days of training, before moving into the new Chaos Breaker arc and the arrival of Armored Dragon King Perugius (Rikiya Koyama).
The Rest of "Turning Point 4"
The episode spends most of its runtime on quieter business. Rudeus has a nightmare about a giant Atofe crushing him in her fist, and Sylphiette (Ai Kayano) talks him down. Ranoa Magic University classmate Cliff, meanwhile, is exhausted by the demon eye Kishirika Kishirisu (Yuka Iguchi) handed him. It turns out to be an Identification Eye, which floods his vision with data on everything he looks at. The episode shows it from Cliff's side, and viewers were impressed by how the effect looked.
Nanahoshi (Shion Wakayama) is still sick. The Sokas grass Rudeus went to fetch only flushes the magic power out of her body temporarily, and it builds back up, so she is not cured. She also turns oddly formal, thanking him properly and apologizing for having spoken so bluntly to someone older, which unsettled the audience as much as it did Rudeus. He tells her to drop the formal speech and waves off the question about his age, then tells her she has to go home, because she is not going to die in a world like this. She cries.
The centerpiece is a tea party. Zanoba narrates the Atofe fight in detail for Perugius and Ariel, then produces a doll he wants to put on the market and asks Perugius for an unvarnished opinion. Perugius, who makes no secret of hating demons, tells him to drop it. Zanoba pushes back: Perugius owes the doll's model a debt. The model is Ruijerd Superdia, the Superd warrior who once traveled with Rudeus and who backed Perugius's side in the final battle against Laplace. Perugius eventually concedes that Superd honor means nothing to him, but a debt has to be repaid.
That gets Zanoba an opening to show off the process, and Rudeus sculpts Perugius's familiar Silvaril of the Void out of earth magic on the spot. Perugius calls it astonishing and tells Rudeus to bring him anything good, because he will buy it. Ariel, second princess of the Kingdom of Asura, does not fare as well. Perugius asks her what a king is to her, rejects her answer flatly, then informs her that Rudeus gave a better one.
Rudeus gets home, hugs Roxy (Konomi Kohara), and decides in the bath that he is forgetting too much too fast. So he starts a diary, crafting the binder himself with magic and writing the entries in Japanese, a detail that split the audience between impressed and puzzled. Then he falls asleep, and Hitogami arrives.
This time Hitogami does not offer advice. He calls it closer to a request: go down to the basement right now and check whether anything is abnormal. Then he says thank you and disappears. Rudeus wakes, closes the diary, picks up a candle and heads down. He feels something behind him, turns, sees nothing. He turns again, and this time someone is there: what looks like an old man.
"Don't go to the basement. You have just been deceived by Hitogami."
Rudeus asks who he is. The man answers with a name that only Rudeus should know in that world. A name that does not exist in it. Cut to credits.
Looking Ahead
The next episode is titled "The End and the Beginning," and it airs in the same late-Sunday slot on September 13 on TOKYO MX and BS11, with AT-X following on Tuesdays. Japanese viewers get the simulcast on ABEMA and the d Anime Store streaming service at the same hour.
Internationally, Crunchyroll carries Mushoku Tensei III across most regions, including North and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia, and an English dub is part of its Summer 2026 slate.
