The New Recruits for Doga Kobo's First Supernatural Battle Anime

Mobius Dust represents a major departure for Doga Kobo (Oshi no Ko, Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun), a studio best known for slice-of-life comedies and romance. This is their first supernatural battle series, and the new cast additions show the production is assembling proven talent.

Topping the new reveals is Taito Ban (Sung Jin-Woo in Solo Leveling) as Shousei, the team's reliable older-brother figure and de facto leader. Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie reported five additional cast members alongside Ban: Ao Ichikawa as the cool-headed Kai, Sohei Horikane as the energetic mood-maker Haruto, Satsumi Matsuda as Kurus (a boy who looks like a young girl and is inexplicably fixated on protagonist Araki), Shiori Mikami (Historia in Attack on Titan) as Kurus's twin sister Spica, and Maki Kawase (Junko Konno in Zombie Land Saga) as Dr. Yuda, the leading researcher of the mysterious "Lams" phenomenon.

What Is Mobius Dust?

Born from Project ANIMA, a public recruitment initiative for original anime concepts, Mobius Dust adapts the grand-prize-winning entry by Hajime Shinagawa in the "Kids/Game Anime" division. The story follows high schoolers living in a downtown district who possess special abilities as "Lams Carriers." These children cannot survive without a substance called "Dust," and the newly released main PV introduces over 30 characters caught up in this world.

The key visual assembles main characters Araki, Stella, and Orga alongside the expanded roster, accompanied by the tagline: "Miraculous power or chains of fate."

Director Taro Iwasaki (Sweetness & Lightning, Bibliophile Princess) helms the project with series composition by Yoriko Tomita (My Dress-Up Darling, The Elusive Samurai). Character designer Hatsume Kojima noted in her comment that she's working to deliver the vision of original creator Shinagawa and the director in the best possible animated form. The score comes from electronic artist DÉ DÉ MOUSE, who shared that he composed 55 tracks in a single month after aligning on musical direction with the director.

Ending Theme and Pre-Broadcast Special

The ending theme is "Dilemma" by Ai Tomioka, who described the song as reflecting the identity struggles and interpersonal conflicts that define the show's characters. "Life is a series of dilemmas," Tomioka said of the track's emotional core.

A pre-broadcast live streaming special is set for June 28 at 7:30 PM JST, featuring Araki voice actor Yuto Takenaka, Stella voice actor Nene Hieda, Satsumi Matsuda (Kurus), and Maki Kawase (Dr. Yuda). The stream will include roughly 15 minutes of Episode 1 footage before the show's official premiere.

Looking Ahead

Mobius Dust premieres July 9, 2026 on TOKYO MX, BS Fuji, and MBS. The opening theme, "Mobius" by Leo Ieiri, was previously announced. No international streaming partner has been confirmed yet, though Doga Kobo's recent titles have consistently landed on Crunchyroll. Given the studio's current global profile following Oshi no Ko, an international simulcast announcement likely isn't far off.

The series marks seven years between Project ANIMA's original grand-prize announcement and the finished anime reaching screens.
