What's in the Sale

Amazon Japan's Kindle store has kicked off its first "Manga Weekend Festival," offering 50% point-back on a curated selection of manga series tied to anime and live-action adaptations. The sale, first spotted by Japanese gaming and entertainment outlet Famitsu, runs through June 7, 2026.

The point-back structure means buyers earn half the purchase price in Amazon points, effectively cutting the cost in half on future purchases. It's a common Amazon Japan promotion format, and this round targets series with active or recent screen adaptations.

Highlights for International Fans

The lineup skews toward popular titles that anime viewers outside Japan will recognize. Here are some of the standouts:

  • Kaiju No. 8 (vols. 1-16, from 502 yen per volume): The Shonen Jump+ hit about a kaiju-cleanup worker who gains monster powers. The anime's second season aired in 2025.
  • Lycoris Recoil (vols. 1-8, from 704 yen): The manga adaptation of the original anime about teenage assassins operating out of a Tokyo cafe.
  • Ouran High School Host Club (vols. 1-18, from 594 yen): Bisco Hatori's classic reverse-harem comedy. The 2006 Studio Bones anime remains a go-to recommendation for new fans.
  • Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash (vols. 1-4, from 704 yen): The manga version of the theatrical film trilogy that brought UC Gundam back to the big screen.
  • Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - Vanadis Heart (vols. 1-3, from 673 yen): A side-story manga expanding the world of the 2022-2023 TV series.
  • Detroit Metal City Complete Edition (vols. 1-10, from 715 yen): Kiminori Wakasugi's raunchy comedy about a pop-music lover stuck fronting a death metal band. The 2008 live-action film starred Kenichi Matsuyama.
  • Ai Yori Aoshi (vols. 1-17, from 759 yen): Kou Fumizuki's early-2000s romance, adapted into two anime seasons.
  • Asobi Asobase (vols. 1-15, from 660 yen): The unhinged school-comedy manga behind the 2018 breakout comedy anime.

Other titles in the sale include Kindergarten Wars (vols. 1-17), Ayakashi Triangle (vols. 1-16), The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess (vols. 1-4), Stardust Telepath (vols. 1-5), and a Fate/Grand Order comedy spinoff (vols. 1-7).

A Note on Isekai Villainess Titles

Two "villainess reincarnation" series appear in the sale. Akuyaku Reijou Tensei Ojisan (vols. 1-10) flips the genre by reincarnating a middle-aged man as the villainess, while The One Within the Villainess (vols. 1-6) plays the premise straighter with a revenge-driven plot. Both have received anime adaptations.

What to Know Before Buying

This sale is on Amazon Japan's Kindle store, which means international buyers need a Japanese Amazon account. Kindle manga purchased from Amazon Japan can be read on any Kindle app regardless of region, but the storefront, pricing, and point-back system are all in Japanese yen.

The 50% comes back as Amazon points rather than a direct discount, so the savings apply to future purchases on the platform. For readers already buying Japanese-language manga digitally, it's a strong deal.

The Famitsu roundup notes that sale pricing is based on the time of publication and could change. The promotion ends June 7, 2026.
