Kōichi Yamadera Promises a Goofier Momo Yozakura
The new key visual shows the entire Yozakura family squaring off against Momo Yozakura (夜桜百), the father figure the announcement describes as holding the key to the story. Kōichi Yamadera (Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop), who voices Momo, shared a comment alongside the reveal, and it complicates the showdown the artwork teases. According to Yamadera, Momo has spent the series so far displaying his strangeness and warped brand of family love, but the coming episodes will let a slightly goofy "papa" side slip through.
Yamadera called Momo a difficult character to play and appealing for exactly that reason. He said he rereads the original manga over and over to trace how Momo thinks, then works through rehearsal videos and scripts until the character's logic clicks before heading into the studio. Momo may look complicated, he suggested, but his thinking might actually be very simple. He also teased that new characters will get tangled up in the family's confrontation, promising plenty to watch in the new episodes.
Both Theme Songs Were Written With the Story in Mind
According to the report from Japanese entertainment news site Spice, the opening theme is "Forever Song" by Osaka pop-rock band Humbreaders. Vocalist Mutsumuro said he wrote the song by processing what he felt watching the anime and reading the manga, and that he worked specific references to the story into the lyrics. He declined to list them, saying he would rather listeners find them on their own, and noted that the story is now heading into its climax.
The ending theme is "I'm still breathing" by KID PHENOMENON. The group said the song is tied to protagonist Taiyo Asano and the way he refuses to give up no matter the situation. Snippets of both songs play in the new promotional video on NBCUniversal's anime channel, giving fans their first listen ahead of the broadcast.
Where the Series Stands
Mission: Yozakura Family follows Taiyo Asano, a high schooler who shut himself off from the world after losing his family in an accident, as he lands in the middle of the turbulent daily life of the Yozakuras, a spy family with a long history. The series bills itself as a spy-family comedy built on love and laughs.
Hitsuji Gondaira's original manga ran for about five and a half years in Weekly Shonen Jump before ending in January 2025, with 29 volumes out from Shueisha. The anime's first season aired in 2024, and Season 2 began this past April in the same Sunday 5 p.m. slot the new episodes will occupy. SILVER LINK. handles animation production, with Mirai Minato as chief director and series composition writer, Takahiro Nakatsugawa directing, and Mizuki Takahashi on character designs.
The cast is led by Reiji Kawashima as Taiyo and Kaede Hondo as Mutsumi Yozakura, alongside Yamadera's Momo. The returning lineup also includes Katsuyuki Konishi, Akari Kitō, Aoi Yūki, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as the Yozakura siblings.
Looking Ahead
The second half of Season 2 starts Sunday, October 11, 2026 at 5 p.m. JST across 28 MBS/TBS-affiliated stations in Japan. Internationally, Hulu picked up Season 2 for U.S. streaming with Disney+ carrying it in other regions when the first half launched in April; there's no separate announcement yet for the new episodes, though a continuation on the same platforms would follow the season's existing pattern.
The manga is fully available in English: Viz Media publishes it through the Shonen Jump app and in print, and Shueisha's Manga Plus service carries it as well. With the source material finished, the anime is now adapting a story whose ending Japanese readers already know, which makes the climax framing from Humbreaders' Mutsumuro worth taking literally.
