The Bureaucrats Behind the Magical Girls

For the unfamiliar, Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. is set in a world where slaying monsters called anomalies is a legitimate profession carried out by corporate-employed magical girls. The series follows Kana Sakuragi, voiced by Fairouz Ai (Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Power in Chainsaw Man), as she joins the startup Magilumiere straight out of college and grows as both a working adult and a magical girl. The returning cast includes Rikiya Koyama, Daiki Yamashita, and Akira Ishida.

The two newly announced characters push the series further into its workplace-meets-fantasy premise by introducing the government officials who regulate the magical girl industry. Kōsuke Gotō will play Director Koshigaya, head of the Magical Energy Agency, a government body overseeing magical power. He's also the father of Hitomi Koshigaya, one of the show's key characters. Hitomi considers him "the incarnation of strictness," and his opposition to her career as a magical girl runs so deep that he claims to have severed their family bond entirely.

Taketora joins as Director Manda, head of the Magical Technology Research Institute. Manda is a contrarian who says white when the room says black. More troubling: he concealed information about a new type of anomaly that appeared at his institute, keeping it from the magical organizations federation. That kind of institutional cover-up adds a layer of political tension to a show that already balances action with office drama.

The Actors Weigh In

In his official comment, Kōsuke Gotō said the show's blend of corporate realism and magical girl fantasy more than captured his curiosity. He described Director Koshigaya as his polar opposite: dignified, unwavering, and deeply invested in the societal structures around magical girls. "Director Koshigaya doesn't waver. He truly doesn't waver!" Gotō said, adding that he kept his core muscles fully engaged while staying calm at the mic to project the character's rigid authority. He flagged the scenes between Koshigaya and his daughter Hitomi as must-watch moments.

Taketora praised the show for depicting non-magical-girl adults, from colleagues to bosses, as characters in their own right. On Manda, he noted the character's fundamental ambiguity. "Is he an ally or an enemy? Can you trust him or not?" He wants to explore Manda's hidden motives while having fun in the Magilumiere world.

Looking Ahead
