A Jinbei for Frieren's Least Dignified Running Gag
Frieren getting swallowed headfirst by a treasure-chest mimic, legs kicking in the air, is one of the anime's signature recurring bits, and COSPA is betting fans want to wear it. According to Japanese anime news site Anime Anime, the "Frieren Eaten by a Mimic Jinbei" headlines the new lineup, and the outlet capped its headline with Frieren's muffled cries from inside the chest: "It's dark! It's scary!"
A jinbei is a traditional Japanese two-piece summer set: a short-sleeved top with matching shorts, standard warm-weather loungewear that also shows up at summer festivals. COSPA made this one from shijira-ori, a lightly crinkled cotton weave that breathes well and stays off sticky skin. The top and pants both have pockets, the waistband is elastic with a drawcord, and it comes in navy or rikyū nezumi, a muted gray-green from Japan's traditional color palette. It runs ¥13,750 (roughly $90).
Two Viral Frieren Faces, Now in Quick-Dry Fabric
The "I Ended Up Working in a Mine for 300 Years" quick-dry T-shirt prints the hollow-eyed expression Frieren wears in Episode 33, "Northern Plateau Logistics," which aired this past February. In the scene she resigns herself with the line, "I ended up having to work in a mine for 300 years. I guess this is where my journey ends." The show's official TikTok clip of the moment sits at over 34,000 likes, so COSPA knows exactly which face it's selling. There is also a bonus design detail hidden at the back of the neck, and the shirt itself is functional: quick-dry fabric rated UPF20, blocking roughly 95 percent of UV.
A second shirt, the "Frieren Face Quick-Dry T-shirt: Very Reluctant Face Ver.", takes the openly displeased look she wears in Episode 30, "Hero of the South," among other episodes. It gets the same UPF20 quick-dry treatment.
Gag merch is a natural fit for this series. The anime, which premiered in September 2023, adapts writer Kanehito Yamada and artist Tsukasa Abe's manga about the long-lived elf mage Frieren, who sets out to understand humanity after the death of Himmel, the hero she once traveled with. The show swings between quiet character comedy and serious magic combat, and this line pulls entirely from the comedy column.
Tote Bags, Keychains, and a Wonder Festival Head Start
The lineup rounds out with everyday items: a fold-flat "Frieren Face" tote bag, acrylic multi-keychains in three designs that add Fern and Stark to the mix at ¥880 each, and cleaning cloths in three designs at ¥660 each.
Everything reaches general sale in mid-October 2026, with the standard preorder window open through August 9. Shoppers in Japan this weekend can skip the wait: the jinbei and both T-shirts go on sale early at COSPA's booth at Wonder Festival 2026 Summer on July 26, the twice-yearly hobby and figure event.
Looking Ahead
COSPA's listings target the Japanese market, and no international release has been announced, so overseas fans will likely need a proxy shipping service to grab the jinbei. The anime itself is much easier to reach: the first two Madhouse-produced seasons stream on Crunchyroll, and the original manga is published in English by Viz Media.
The bigger date on the calendar is October 2027, when Season 3 begins broadcasting in Japan. It adapts the Golden Land arc, the manga storyline that starts in volume 9 and pits Frieren's party against the demon Macht. Until then, the mimic jinbei may be the most Frieren way possible to survive a hot summer.
