FLOW Brings Rock Firepower to a Sage's Second Chance

FLOW, the rock outfit behind Naruto's iconic "GO!!!" and Code Geass' "COLORS," will handle the opening theme for From Overshadowed to Overpowered. The track, titled "+ENCOUNT," was written for the series, with lyrics by Kohshi Asakawa and composition by Takeshi Asakawa. It releases under the SACRA MUSIC / Sony Music Labels banner.

In a comment shared by Japanese gaming news site Dengeki Online, FLOW described the song as an expression of "desperately reaching for who you want to become, even when despair and regret close in." The band tied the theme directly to protagonist Eftal's 400-year quest to reclaim his dream, calling the show a "refreshing revenge adventure."

Vocal group TrySail, whose members Sora Amamiya, Momo Asakura, and Shiina Natsukawa are all active voice actors, performs the ending theme "Shōkei" (meaning "yearning"). The track is written, composed, and arranged by sabio, also under SACRA MUSIC.

Main PV and Key Visual Drop

The newly released main PV pairs both theme songs with extended footage of the series. A new key visual was also unveiled, depicting the three leads—Eftal, Anastasia, and Merlin—with the dragon Seiryū looming behind them.

From Overshadowed to Overpowered adapts the manga by Shin Shiraishi, Kentarō, and Sakana Denim, serialized on Square Enix's Manga UP! app. The story follows Eftal, a once-legendary sage who failed to achieve his dream in his previous life and gets a second shot through reincarnation. Now reborn with his overpowered magic intact, he enrolls in an academy where his S-rank abilities set him apart from every other student.

EMT Squared handles animation production under director Hisashi Ishii, with Deko Akao on series composition and Hideki Furukawa on character design. The cast is led by Shūichirō Umeda (Akira Tendo in Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) as Eftal, Reo Osanai (小山内怜央) as Anastasia, and Haruka Shiraishi (Asirpa in Golden Kamuy) as Merlin. The supporting roster includes Emiri Katō (Kagami Hiiragi in Lucky Star) as Iria and Daisuke Hirakawa (Kakyoin in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders) as Frazier.

Broadcast Schedule and Early Streaming

The series premieres on TOKYO MX on July 1, 2026, at midnight, followed by ABC TV on July 4, BS Fuji on July 3, and WOWOW on July 7 (all episodes free on WOWOW). d Anime Store, ABEMA, and U-NEXT will all carry episodes six days before the TV broadcast, starting every Thursday at midnight. That puts the streaming premiere at June 25, 2026.

Looking Ahead

No international streaming partner has been confirmed yet for From Overshadowed to Overpowered. The series currently has listings on both MyAnimeList and AniList under its official English title, and NBC Universal handles the anime's music distribution in Japan. With FLOW's global profile (the band completed a world tour performing Naruto songs in 2025) and SACRA MUSIC's involvement, an international simulcast announcement could come closer to the June 25 streaming launch. The source manga is published by Square Enix on its Manga UP! app, though no English-language release has been announced.
