A Counterfeit-Cash Crisis With an All-Star Cast
The anniversary special goes big. In the story, Japan has just issued a new ¥10,000 bill featuring a design of Toto Tower, the series' fictional stand-in for Tokyo Tower. Conan, the Detective Boys, Professor Agasa, Ran, and Sonoko visit the Japan Currency Printing Bureau's plant in Nagano, and while they are there, a bill recovered at a murder scene turns out to be a nearly flawless counterfeit. According to Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie, the case balloons into a nationwide investigation that pulls in Heiji Hattori and police units across the country. Broadcasters are billing it as the largest all-star character lineup in the show's history.
Series director Nobuharu Kamanaka helms the special from a script by Takeharu Sakurai, based on Gosho Aoyama's original manga. TMS Entertainment produces with Yomiuri TV and Shogakukan.
Elaiza Ikeda Steps Into the Recording Booth for the First Time
Actress and model Elaiza Ikeda guest stars as Tōko Satomi (里見透子), a document examiner at the National Police Agency's forensic science institute. Satomi is the specialist who inspects the bill found on the murder victim and concludes it is a fake precise enough to pass for the real thing. It is Ikeda's first voice acting role. In comments published with the announcement, she said she was honored to join the anniversary project, and that voicing a technical specialist meant finding a delivery quite different from her everyday speech.
Two broadcasters join her as guest voices: Nippon TV announcer Natsumi Kawade and Yomiuri TV announcer Hina Masuda. Kawade, who grew up watching the series, described landing the part as something close to destiny, while Masuda credited Conan with steering her toward a broadcasting career in the first place.
A Whodunit Where the Audience Names the Culprit
The second announcement is Misohitojima no Satsujin (三十一島の殺人, roughly The Thirty-One Island Murder), the first viewer-participation anime in the franchise's 30-year run. The format challenges viewers to reason out the culprit themselves as the mystery plays out on screen, rather than waiting for Conan to do it for them.
Mystery novelist Takahiro Okura, a veteran writer of past Conan TV and film scripts, handles the screenplay. The concept comes from Yasuichirō Yamamoto, the show's longtime series director, who said the idea has been with him for more than 20 years, sparked by a viewer-participation TV mystery drama he watched. He added that he wants a case tough enough that nobody lands on the right answer. Fans will have to wait to test that claim, since the special does not yet have a broadcast date.
Looking Ahead
30-gō Satsujin Jiken, the counterfeit-bill special, airs Friday, September 25, 2026 at 9:00 p.m. on Friday Road Show, Nippon TV's long-running Friday-night movie block. A teaser trailer is up now on the official Detective Conan YouTube channel. Misohitojima no Satsujin has no air date yet, and no word on how viewers will submit their deductions.
Neither special has an announced international broadcast or streaming plan. For the franchise itself, catalog episodes of the TV anime stream on Crunchyroll and Netflix in select regions, and Viz Media publishes Gosho Aoyama's manga in English under the title Case Closed.
