Touko Amekawa Goes Two-for-Two on Anime Adaptations
Japanese publisher TO Books broke the news in a press release on PR TIMES, and it makes Reincarnated in a Mafia Dating Sim (悪党一家の愛娘、転生先も乙女ゲームの極道令嬢でした。) the second straight Touko Amekawa series to reach television. Her previous work, 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy!, got a TV anime in January 2024 and streamed internationally on Crunchyroll.
The series runs under Celica, TO Books' fiction label aimed at female readers, with novel illustrations by LINO. Sora Goto draws the manga version, serialized on Corona EX, TO Books' own manga site. Combined, the novels and manga have passed 450,000 copies in circulation across print and digital.
A Yakuza Granddaughter Who Just Wants One Friend
Per the publisher's synopsis, the heroine is the granddaughter of a yakuza family whose single wish in life is to make a friend. She reincarnates into an otome game world, an early-modern setting where the mafia pulls strings behind the monarchy, as Francesca, the cherished daughter of one of the game's five great families. The main story kicks off and she is promptly kidnapped by Leonardo, her fiancé and the game's greatest enemy character.
Instead of a threat, he makes an offer: "Want me to be that 'friend' of yours?" Delighted by her first shot at a best friend, Francesca sets out to rewrite the story's dead-end scenario with her natural guts and old-school yakuza honor. Leonardo, for his part, grumbles that he was trying to court her.
Volume 6 and a Shibuya Pop-Up Land on August 1
The anime announcement arrives ahead of a stacked release day. Novel volume 6 and manga volume 6 both hit Japanese shelves on August 1, priced at 1,399 yen and 759 yen, respectively. Details on both are up on the series' official site.
TO Books is also running a pop-up shop for the series at its TO POP-UP store inside the Shibuya Sakura Stage commercial complex from August 1 through August 9, open 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Looking Ahead
The announcement covers the adaptation itself and nothing else. No studio, director, cast, or broadcast window has been named yet. TO Books does have a solid track record of shepherding its catalog to TV, with Ascendance of a Bookworm and Tearmoon Empire among its previous adaptations.
English-speaking readers can catch up right now. Tokyopop publishes both the light novel and the manga in English under the title Reincarnated in a Mafia Dating Sim, with five manga volumes out so far. International streaming for the anime has not been announced.
