Goku, Luffy, and Lelouch Are All in This Cast
The five additions announced alongside the date read like a voice-acting hall of fame. Masako Nozawa (Son Goku in Dragon Ball) plays the Iemoto, the grandmaster of the Daimonji school of Martial Arts Tea Ceremony and the grandmother pushing her heir toward an arranged marriage with a respectable family. In her comment accompanying the report from Japanese entertainment site Dengeki Online, Nozawa joked that a grandmaster is supposed to be elegant, quiet, and ladylike. Supposedly.
Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch in Code Geass) voices that heir, Sentarō Daimonji (大文字煎太郎). Sentarō can't stand any of the marriage candidates his grandmother keeps proposing, so he's hunting for a strong woman who can help him wreck the engagement talks. Fukuyama admitted he assumed he was being called back to reprise the drama club president he played earlier in the remake, and was floored when the script said Sentarō instead.
Then it gets mysterious. Mayumi Tanaka (Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece) plays an unnamed master of Martial Arts Tea Ceremony whose skill even the Iemoto respects, and Saori Hayami (Yor Forger in Spy x Family) plays a character the production won't describe at all. Both said in their comments that they can't reveal anything yet, though Tanaka teased that hers is an important role in the story. Hayami called joining the modern-day Ranma 1/2 an honor and admitted she was unbelievably nervous at her first recording session.
The fifth addition is Minami Tanaka as Tsubasa Kurenai (紅つばさ), a disguise-obsessed former classmate in love with Ukyo Kuonji. Tsubasa keeps writing love letters even after learning Ukyo already has a fiancé. Tanaka said she read the original manga in elementary school and never imagined she would end up playing Tsubasa.
October 3 on Nippon TV, Netflix Right After
Season 3 starts October 3, 2026, airing Saturdays at 24:55 (that's 12:55 a.m. Sunday) on Nippon TV, then rolling out nationwide across the network. Netflix streams each episode exclusively right after broadcast, the same setup the remake's first two seasons used.
The new key visual puts Ranma, Akane, and Ryōga front and center, ringed by the characters joining in Season 3. Dengeki describes it as the show's slapstick martial-arts rom-com spirit condensed into a single illustration.
On the production side, Kōnosuke Uda directs at MAPPA, with series composition by Kimiko Ueno, character designs by Hiromi Taniguchi, and music by Kaoru Wada. The core cast carries over, led by Kappei Yamaguchi as Ranma, Megumi Hayashibara as the female Ranma, Noriko Hidaka as Akane, and Kōichi Yamadera as Ryōga. Rumiko Takahashi's original manga is published by Shogakukan under its Shonen Sunday Comics label.
Season 2 Hits Blu-ray Four Days Later
The same announcement confirmed that the Season 2 Blu-ray and DVD arrive October 7, 2026, collecting all 12 episodes on three discs with newly drawn jacket art by Taniguchi. Extras include audio commentaries on episodes 14, 20, and 24 (Yamaguchi and Hidaka joined by Rei Sakuma, Kaori Nazuka, and Toshihiko Seki respectively), plus two new voice dramas, Tendō-ke no Oshōgatsu and Tendō-ke no Hatsumōde, both built around the Tendo family's New Year. The Blu-ray runs ¥30,800, the DVD ¥27,500.
Looking Ahead
The next date on the calendar is the October 3 premiere, with the Season 2 home video release following on October 7. Netflix is again the exclusive streaming home, and the remake's first two seasons already stream on Netflix internationally, so overseas fans shouldn't have to wait long after the Japanese broadcast.
A second trailer showing the new characters is already up on MAPPA's official YouTube channel. The two undisclosed roles for Mayumi Tanaka and Saori Hayami stay secret until the show airs, so we'll find out who they're playing this fall. In the meantime, Rumiko Takahashi's original manga is available in English from Viz Media.
