From Solo Leveling's Manhwa Studio to the Screen
The anime adaptation of Overgeared, known in Japan as Tempal: Item no Chikara (テムパル~アイテムの力~), was announced by Comic Natalie alongside a teaser PV and key visual. The series is based on REDICE STUDIO's webtoon adaptation of Saenal's web novel, with art by Team Argo and story adaptation by Monohumbug.
REDICE STUDIO is the webtoon art house that produced the manhwa version of Solo Leveling, one of the biggest anime breakouts in recent years. In a comment accompanying the announcement, REDICE expressed pride at seeing another of their works follow Solo Leveling into anime, noting they're involved as supervisors on the production.
For the uninitiated, Overgeared follows Shin Youngwoo — a down-on-his-luck gamer scraping by in Satisfy, a VR game with two billion players worldwide. Playing as a blacksmith named Grid, he stumbles through a high-difficulty quest and lands "Pagma's Rare Book," a legendary item that transforms him into a master craftsman. Grid is greedy, calculating, and prone to overconfidence, but he's also stubborn and surprisingly loyal. The series is a fantasy action story where the protagonist climbs the ranks not by swinging a sword harder than everyone else, but by forging better gear — and that's exactly what sets it apart in a crowded genre.
Cast and Crew
Ayako Kōno (Sword Art Online Progressive: Aria of a Starless Night, Scherzo of Deep Night) directs at J.C.STAFF, with Kenta Ihara on series composition, Ryōsuke Tanigawa handling character design, Yoshikazu Iwanami as sound director, and Yoshiaki Fujisawa composing the music. Pony Canyon handles music production, with EGG FIRM producing.
Tatsumaru Tachibana voices Grid, the calculating blacksmith whose journey from the game's biggest nobody to its most legendary craftsman drives the series. Asami Seto (Nobara Kugisaki in Jujutsu Kaisen, Raphtalia in The Rising of the Shield Hero) takes on the role of Yura, described as a mysterious figure with an overwhelming presence.
Tachibana revealed he's been reading Overgeared since its debut and called Grid "a sloppy guy you'd find anywhere," praising the story's cathartic underdog arc. Seto highlighted the series' intriguing premise — a world where in-game wealth bleeds into reality — while calling Grid's reckless determination both endearing and nerve-wracking. The newly released teaser PV showcases Grid's journey from weakest to strongest, with early glimpses of both characters' dialogue.
Looking Ahead
Overgeared premieres in October 2026 as part of the fall anime season. No international streaming partner has been announced yet, though the series' profile — a REDICE STUDIO property at a major studio like J.C.STAFF — makes a platform pickup likely.
English-speaking fans who want to get ahead of the anime can find the Overgeared manhwa published by Yen Press, with multiple volumes already available. The original webtoon also runs on Piccoma in Japan.
Whether Overgeared can replicate Solo Leveling's crossover appeal is the question hanging over the adaptation. The game-world setting and power-progression hook are familiar territory, but Grid's identity as a craftsman rather than a fighter gives the series a different flavor entirely. We'll see when it airs this fall.
