A Towel Made of Twintails
The photo, shared by the series' official X account, is a simple setup. The Frieren plush sits on a chair. In front of her: an unwrapped Gari-Gari-kun Soda, the pale-blue stick ice pop made by the Japanese company Akagi Nyugyo, with its packaging laid out alongside.
The staging detail that got fans talking is the hair. Whoever arranged the shot lifted the plush's twintail parts, crossed them, and bundled them on top of her head. The silhouette reads as a bath towel wrapped around freshly washed hair. According to ABEMA Times, the news arm of Japanese streaming service ABEMA, replies filled with playful jabs about the "towel-wrapped hair" look.
The caption is the other half of the joke. "Gari-Gari-ren" (ガリガリーレン) smushes the ice pop's brand name into Frieren's.
The Episode 31 Scene It Points To
As the ABEMA Times report notes, the setup appears to recreate a moment from episode 31 of the anime, the third episode of season 2. In that scene, a fresh-from-the-bath Frieren sits with a towel wrapped around her head and savors a pale-blue stick ice pop of her own. The plush photo mirrors it right down to the color of the ice.
The episode, titled Suki na Basho (roughly "A Favorite Place"), aired in late January 2026 during season 2's hot-spring storyline, which followed Frieren, Fern, and Stark as they searched for a hidden hot spring in the town of Etwas. Season 2 premiered on Nippon TV on January 16, 2026.
Looking Ahead
For now, "Gari-Gari-ren" is a single photo. ABEMA Times frames it as a collaboration shot between the series and Gari-Gari-kun, but the report doesn't mention any product tie-in, collab flavor, or campaign attached to it. If Akagi Nyugyo has a real Frieren ice pop in the works, nobody has said so yet.
The anime is easy to catch up on internationally. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End season 2 streams on Crunchyroll, and there's a bigger date already on the calendar: TOHO animation's official channel has announced season 3, covering the manga's Golden Land arc (黄金郷編), for October 2027.
