Kaito Kid's Most Unexpected Disguise

The Conan-side episode opened with the Junior Detective League watching Star Detective Precure! (名探偵プリキュア!) on TV. They were watching the events of the May 31 Precure episode "Meitantei no Kyōen (Assemble)," where Conan had already crossed over into Precure's world. That framing set up the rest of the story.

In Beika Town, a string of jewelry robberies has Ayumi convinced that Precure's Phantom gang is responsible. She pulls the Junior Detective League into a stakeout at the Kaneko Jewelry Store, a shop that Animate Times notes has been robbed in at least six previous Conan episodes, all anime originals. The kids tail a suspicious customer, track down the Santos bandit gang's hideout, and help police make the arrest.

But Ayumi notices something is off. Cure Answer appears, complete with a transformation sequence redrawn entirely in Detective Conan's art style. Then the real twist: Cure Answer was Kaito Kid in disguise, protecting Ayumi's love of Precure while helping Conan close the case.

The pair fused their signature attacks into a finishing move dubbed "Conacure! Double! Flying Spectral! With Soccer Ball!!" Kid fired his trademark card gun while Conan launched a soccer ball using his kick-enhancing shoes and ball-dispensing belt. Their combined catchphrase merged Precure's "See, feel, solve the mystery" with Conan's "There's always only one truth!" into a single declaration: "This is our answer!" The Conan Main Theme from the 2019 film The Fist of Blue Sapphire scored the whole sequence.

The episode closed with Ayumi wearing a Precure costume in the ending credits, which carried a "Special Thanks" to Star Detective Precure! producers Kanako Tada and Sōya Aramaki. The "Next Conan's Hint" preview segment featured a three-way exchange between Kaito Kid, his Cure Answer alter ego, and Conan.

Two Networks, Two Studios, One Mystery

The collaboration stood out for the corporate logistics behind it. Detective Conan airs on Yomiuri TV/Nippon TV and is produced by TMS Entertainment (Lupin III). Star Detective Precure!, the 23rd Pretty Cure series from Toei Animation (One Piece, Dragon Ball), airs on ABC TV/TV Asahi. Different broadcasters, animation studios, publishers, and film distributors all cooperated to make it happen.

The crossover played out across two episodes on separate weekends. Animate Times' breakdown maps the connections between them: Star Detective Precure! episode 18, "Meitantei no Kyōen (Assemble)," aired May 31, with Conan, Ran, and Kogoro visiting the Precure setting of Makoto Mirai Town to help solve a stolen-art case. The June 6 Conan episode, "Hanamaru na Shinjitsu (Answer)," flipped the direction by bringing Precure elements into Conan's Beika Town, including an appearance by Niji, a member of Precure's Phantom gang.

Detective Conan's TV anime started in 1996, making 2026 its 30th broadcast anniversary. The source manga by Gosho Aoyama has run in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday since 1994. Star Detective Precure!, which premiered in February 2026, follows 14-year-old Anna Akechi, who time-travels from 2027 to 1999 and teams up with fellow detective-Precure Mikuru Kobayashi. The detective angle shared by both series gave the crossover a natural premise.

Looking Ahead

Both crossover episodes are streaming on Crunchyroll across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Oceania, and CIS territories. Fans can watch the Precure side first (episode 18, May 31) and follow up with the Conan episode (June 6) for the full two-part story.

Star Detective Precure! has a theatrical film scheduled for September 18, 2026, in Japan. Detective Conan continues its weekly Saturday evening broadcast on Yomiuri TV as its 30th anniversary year rolls on.
