Will Recalls the Origin of His Sword
The Episode 22 synopsis picks up in the middle of the Second Bloom, the high-stakes trial that pits academy students against real threats under the eyes of the Tower's High Mages and the Magia Vende, the five supreme mages. Will and Julius enter the arena together, but Will's challenge is personal: he must face a Wors Ooze, the slime-like creature whose liquid body is immune to physical attacks.
Fans of the series know Will has been fighting this exact problem since Season 1. His inability to use magic means every Wors Ooze encounter has ended the same way. This time, the Animate Times preview reveals something different. Will recalls the magic he and Elfaria created together as children, rediscovering the root of his swordsmanship. Drawing on that memory, he channels his own Wis into his blade for the first time.
That detail matters. Will's Wis ability lets him absorb external spells and load them into his sword, but channeling one from his own emotions and memories is a step beyond anything he has done before. His training with Cerridwen earlier in Season 2 laid the groundwork for this moment, and Episode 22 appears to be where it pays off.
The preview includes 10 stills from the episode, showing Will and Julius in the arena with the Magia Vende watching from above.
What Is Wistoria: Wand and Sword?
The series is based on the manga by Toshi Aoi, built on an original story by Fujino Omori, the creator of Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (DanMachi). Published by Kodansha, the manga follows Will Serfort, a student at a prestigious magic academy who cannot use magic the way his classmates can. To keep a childhood promise to his friend Elfaria, he aims for the Magia Vende, the highest rank a mage can hold, relying on a sword instead of a wand.
Season 2 premiered on April 12, 2026, airing Sundays on TBS across 28 stations in Japan. Tatsuya Yoshihara, who directed Season 1, moved up to chief director, with Hideaki Nakano stepping in as director. Nobu Kimura handles series composition. Character designer Sayaka Ono and composer Yuki Hayashi both return. BN Pictures and Actas continue their co-production from Season 1.
Kohei Amasaki voices Will, Akira Sekine voices Elfaria, and Tetsuya Kakihara voices Julius, the three characters at the center of Episode 22's synopsis.
Looking Ahead
Episode 22 airs Sunday, June 14 on TBS in Japan. Crunchyroll is streaming Season 2 with Japanese audio and an English dub (which launched April 26) across North America, Europe, South America, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The series is also available on Amazon Prime Video.
The source manga is published in English by Kodansha USA, for readers who want to get ahead of the anime.
With Will channeling his own Wis for the first time, Episode 22 sits at a turning point deep into Season 2. Whether this new ability is enough to clear the Second Bloom, we'll see when the episode airs.
