Suzuka Steps Into the Ring Against Iseya
The newly released images capture the series' most physically demanding sequence: Shimura Kōta, the bullied underdog played by Ōji Suzuka, facing off against Kuwata Yūgō — an underworld promoter with terrifying charisma — played by Yūsuke Iseya (Rurouni Kenshin: The Final, 13 Assassins). It's Shimura's biggest test yet, a proper boxing match against a man who operates in an entirely different weight class of power.
According to a Comic Natalie report, the stills show Shimura armed with nothing but the fighting techniques he taught himself through online tutorial videos — the "Kenka Dokugaku" of the title — standing across the ring from Kuwata's raw physical dominance.
Director Takeuchi on Suzuka's Transformation
Director Hideki Takeuchi (Thermae Romae, Fly Me to the Saitama) praised Suzuka's commitment to the role's physical demands. The part required Suzuka to look scrawny in early episodes, then appear ring-ready with a trained physique later — all within a four-month shoot.
"I was worried about whether he could pull off that body transformation in just four months of filming, but he did it brilliantly," Takeuchi said.
Takeuchi also revealed that boxing training began months before cameras rolled. The two developed a close creative partnership during prep, with Takeuchi visiting practice sessions and exchanging ideas. He noted that Suzuka's natural playfulness actually influenced the character — providing moments of comic relief that balance the series' heavier fight sequences.
Iseya Brings the Menace
Iseya's casting as the formidable Kuwata reunites him with Takeuchi for the first time since 2019's Fly Me to the Saitama. The director was blunt about why he pushed for Iseya: "I love his acting." Rather than giving detailed character notes, Takeuchi trusted Iseya's instincts for the role's sinister intensity.
"I knew he's good at madness, so I just told him to be unsettling. And to get in shape," Takeuchi said with a laugh.
What Is Viral Hit?
For those unfamiliar, Viral Hit (喧嘩独学) is a massively popular Korean webtoon by PTJ cartoon company with art by Kim Jung-hyun, serialized on LINE Manga. The story follows Shimura Kōta, a high school student at rock bottom of the social hierarchy who discovers he can make money by livestreaming fights. With no fighting background, he trains himself using mysterious online combat tutorials and takes on increasingly dangerous opponents — a premise that blends underdog sports drama with social media-age commentary.
This Japanese live-action adaptation marks the first time the webtoon has been brought to live-action in any market.
Looking Ahead
Viral Hit begins streaming worldwide exclusively on Netflix on June 11, 2026. The series features a stacked supporting cast including Ai Mikami, Araki Sugō, Noritaka Hamao, and Meru Nūmi (めるる), with screenplay by Yūichi Tokunaga and music by Face 2 fAKE.
The main trailer is already available on Netflix Japan's YouTube channel. Since this is a Netflix worldwide exclusive, international fans won't need to wait for a separate licensing announcement — it drops everywhere on the same date. The source webtoon is available in English on WEBTOON under its Korean title How to Fight.
