A Magic Spell for Bath Time

If you've ever set foot in a Japanese public bath, you've held a Kerorin bucket. The bright yellow plastic tubs have been a fixture of the country's sentō and onsen since 1963, originally created to advertise a headache remedy. Over six decades later, they're less a product and more a cultural icon — and now Frieren is getting her own.

A new merch line called Onsen no Frieren — a play on the anime's Japanese title, Sōsō no Frieren — launched today via Comic Natalie. The concept: "magic that warms you to the core," riffing on Frieren's specialty as a mage to sell relaxation-themed goods. The first item is a Kerorin bucket featuring a new illustration of Frieren lounging contentedly in a hot spring, printed on the tub's bottom.

The Bucket Itself

The design keeps things simple. The bucket's base shows a freshly drawn Frieren mid-soak, looking as blissed out as an immortal elf can get, surrounded by the tagline "★★Magic That Warms You to the Core★★." It's the kind of understated character merch that works as both a functional bath item and a display piece.

Priced at ¥2,530 (about $17) tax included, the bucket is available through the AKROS OFFICIAL SHOP and AOZORAGEAR online SHOP. The announcement describes it as the "first wave" of the Onsen no Frieren line, suggesting more hot-spring-themed items are on the way.

Why Kerorin Collabs Are a Thing

Anime fans in Japan will recognize the format immediately. Kerorin bucket collaborations have become a quiet staple of anime merchandising — Bocchi the Rock!, Laid-Back Camp, and My Hero Academia have all gotten the yellow-tub treatment. The appeal is partly the novelty (it's a bath bucket with your favorite character on it) and partly the nostalgia. Kerorin buckets are one of those everyday Japanese objects that punch well above their weight in cultural recognition.

For a show built around quiet, reflective moments between grand adventures, the fit is surprisingly natural. Frieren spending an afternoon soaking in a hot spring is exactly the kind of low-stakes slice-of-life beat that makes the series resonate.

Looking Ahead

The Onsen no Frieren line is positioned as an ongoing series, so expect additional items beyond the bucket. Meanwhile, the Frieren: Beyond Journey's End anime continues its Season 2 run adapting the Revolte arc. The manga, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, is serialized in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday and is available in English from Viz Media.

No international retailer has been announced for the Kerorin bucket yet, so overseas fans will likely need to use a proxy shopping service to grab one. For those in Japan, the AKROS and AOZORAGEAR shops have the listing live now.
