Lupin's 2D Return Leads the Anime Arrivals
The marquee anime addition is LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE: Fujimi no Ichizoku, arriving as an exclusive on June 27. Directed by Takeshi Koike and produced at Telecom Animation Film under TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin III), the film marks the Lupin III franchise's first completely new 2D theatrical animation in approximately 30 years. B'z provides the theme song.
The story follows Lupin and his crew as they pursue a shadowy mastermind who has been sending assassins after them. Their search leads to an uncharted island ruled by Muom — an unkillable enemy immune to both guns and blades — where Lupin must stake his pride as a thief in a battle of wits.
Also hitting the platform on June 1 is the exclusive streaming premiere of Tabekko Dobutsu THE MOVIE, an anime film adaptation of the long-running biscuit brand that first launched in 1978.
Classic Anime Series Join the Catalog
Beyond the film exclusives, Prime Video Japan is adding several beloved anime series to its June rotation. Dragon Ball, Gintama, Kuroko's Basketball, Ishura, and The Devil is a Part-Timer! all join the streaming library during the month.
Starting June 19, the platform will also make a batch of theatrical Anpanman films available — a move clearly aimed at families with young children heading into summer.
Beyond Anime: Kokuho and Karate Kid Lead the Broader Slate
The lineup's overall headliner is Kokuho (National Treasure), a live-action film that swept 10 categories at the 49th Japan Academy Awards and earned an Academy Award nomination for Makeup & Hairstyling at the 98th Oscars. It hits Prime Video as an exclusive on June 6.
On the international film side, Karate Kid: Legends — the crossover featuring both Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio — arrives as an exclusive on June 22. The service is also adding a massive catalog dump of 100 TBS drama classics including hits like VIVANT and Nigeru wa Haji da ga Yaku ni Tatsu (We Married as a Job).
Other notable exclusive additions include Specials, a dance-action film starring Sakuma Genta, and the Prime Original drama series Kuroema, a fortune-telling mystery starring Sugisaki Hana and Tabe Mikako.
Looking Ahead
Prime Video Japan noted that additional titles may be announced closer to their release dates, with the June rollout beginning on June 1 and running through the end of the month.
For international anime fans, Prime Video's Japan-exclusive titles don't always make it to other regions simultaneously. LUPIN THE IIIRD THE MOVIE's global streaming availability outside Japan hasn't been announced — fans outside the country will want to watch for a separate international distribution announcement. The Lupin III franchise has historically been available on platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix in various territories, so wider availability is plausible but unconfirmed.
The broader anime series additions — Dragon Ball, Gintama, Kuroko's Basketball — are already widely available on international streaming platforms, so this expansion primarily benefits Prime Video subscribers in Japan who prefer to consolidate their viewing.
