Nobunaga Shimazaki Heads Up the Human Cast
The teaser premiered on stage at Arcanadea Engage Fes 2026, a fan event held in Tokyo's Shinagawa district on August 29, according to a report from Japanese entertainment news site Dengeki Online. The stage program also revealed who plays the anime's human leads.
Nobunaga Shimazaki (Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen, Haruka Nanase in Free!) voices protagonist Shōgo Kuga (空閑翔吾), a third-year college student who once made a name for himself as an ace player of a VR online game that shares the series' name, and who now drifts through his days with no real drive. In a video message played at the event, Shimazaki described Shōgo as someone whose emotional range shrank after an incident in his past. He called the boy-meets-girl dynamic with Lumitea one of the show's main draws, with her big emotions gradually pulling Shōgo's own back out.
Konomi Inagaki plays Kaho Asagi (浅黄香穂), a first-year student who is already an experienced "Dear Master" and ends up explaining the ropes to her older classmate. Midway through the event came a surprise: Moka Kanzaki (神﨑桃伽), who was on that same stage as a guest, will voice the beast-race Dears Ghi. Mai Kanno rounds out the new additions as Rin Kirinoe (桐乃上凛), Ghi's master, who also works as an idol.
The three previously announced Dears voices are all continuing. Kaede Hondo plays Lumitea, Miho Okasaki plays Velretta, and Rina Hidaka plays Yukumo.
From Hobby Shelf to TV Screen
Arcanadea started life in December 2021 as an original line of customizable bishoujo plastic model kits from Kotobukiya, with character designs by illustrator necömi. Kotobukiya says the series has shipped more than 700,000 kits to date.
The anime tells an original story. Shōgo's gray routine gets upended when he meets Lumitea, a Dears of the angel race who fell out of the sky, lost her memories, and now adores him as her "Master" while marveling at everything in the human world. The teaser video shows his surroundings turning louder and more colorful as the Dears pile into his life.
Character profiles released at the event fill in the rest of the core group. Velretta, one of Kaho's two Dears, belongs to the demon race and counts among the "Seven Demon Lances," the seven strongest of her kind; she is a confident prankster who still ends up leading Kaho and Yukumo. Yukumo, Kaho's other partner, is a soft-spoken beast-race Dears who badly wants to be useful to her friends. Ghi loves cute things, tries to make anyone she takes a liking to into her "kin," and quietly ranks among the hardest hitters of all the Dears.
The Team Bringing It to Life
Yokohama Animation Lab produces the series, with Keiichirō Kawaguchi directing and Atsuhiro Tomioka handling series composition. Kumoha Arakawa adapts necömi's original designs for animation, and the music comes from Yūki Hayashi and Yūki Furuhashi.
Inagaki's event comments give a picture of the recording sessions. The studio is decorated with rows of Arcanadea model kits, and the producers sometimes walk the cast through part-swapping and coordination ideas after recording wraps. She also teased that some important characters will catch viewers off guard.
Looking Ahead
The series premieres in January 2027 in the NUMAnimation block across the TV Asahi network's 24 national stations, and on BS Asahi. Dengeki Online notes the schedule may change without notice. Updates will roll out through the official X account and the Arcanadea Channel on YouTube, the same channel hosting the teaser.
No international streaming partner has been announced yet, and the reveal says nothing about a simulcast. The model kits themselves already sell through Western hobby retailers, so the show arrives with a built-in overseas fanbase waiting on that answer.
