Five Veteran Voices Enter the Maiden Court

Though I Am an Inept Villainess: Tale of the Butterfly-Rat Body Swap in the Maiden Court follows Kou Reirin (黄玲琳), a gifted noblewoman who wakes up one day trapped in the body of Shu Keigetsu, the most despised woman in the imperial maiden court. Rather than crumble, Reirin charges headfirst into her new reality, using her wits to navigate deadly court politics and unravel the conspiracy behind the swap. Now the anime adaptation at Doga Kobo (Oshi no Ko, Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun) has assembled a heavyweight supporting cast to match.

Japanese comics news site Comic Natalie reported five new additions, each voicing a key figure from one of the court's noble families. Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan, Violet Evergarden in Violet Evergarden) plays Gen Kasui (玄歌吹), the quiet, composed Gen family maiden who, per Ishikawa, may be harboring secrets beneath her poise. Inori Minase, who voices Rem in Re:Zero, joins as Ran Hōshun (藍芳春) of the Ran family. Ai Kayano takes on Shu Gabi (朱雅媚), Mai Nakahara voices Kin Seika (金清佳), and Rei Igarashi rounds out the group as Kou Kenshū (黄絹秀), a character she describes as strong, strict, and genuinely cool.

The five join a previously announced lead cast headed by Manaka Iwami as the resourceful Reirin and Natsumi Kawaida as the reviled Keigetsu. Makoto Furukawa, Yūichirō Umehara, Hana Hishikawa, and Nikerai Faranāze fill out the core roster. Director Mitsue Yamazaki helms the production with Yoshiko Nakamura on series composition, Ai Kikuchi handling character design, and Yukari Hashimoto composing the score.

milet Brings "Sunny" to the Opening

Singer milet will perform "Sunny," the anime's opening theme. A newly released main trailer set to the track previews Reirin's turbulent new life in Keigetsu's body, contrasting the maiden court's lavish visuals with the political danger lurking beneath. The footage closes on Reirin refusing to back down against the adversity her borrowed identity brings.

milet said she connected with the body-swap premise on a personal level. "I too have wished I could see the world as someone else," she noted, adding that writing "Sunny" felt like jumping into Reirin and Keigetsu's story alongside them.

Takarazuka Stars and Pre-Premiere Events

Former top performers from the Takarazuka Revue, Japan's all-female musical theater troupe, have been named Special Supporters for the anime. Madoka Hoshikaze and Junka will appear at an advance screening on June 21, 2026 at TOHO Cinemas Hibiya in Tokyo, joined on stage by cast members Kawaida, Hishikawa, and Nikerai Faranāze. Attendees will receive a digital short novel written by original author Satsuki Nakamura.

A separate promotional event follows on June 28 in Tokyo, featuring Kawaida, Hishikawa, Nikerai, Furukawa, Igarashi, Kayano, Nakahara, and Ishikawa. That event will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
