Komatsu and Azakami Bring the Leads to Life

Mikako Komatsu (Maki Zenin in Jujutsu Kaisen) voices Rose, the reclusive witch at the heart of the story. In comments released alongside the Anime Anime announcement, Komatsu described arriving at the audition on a day when nothing was going right, only to leave with renewed energy after connecting with the material. She hopes the tingling excitement she felt reading the original novel carries through to the anime's audience.

Yōhei Azakami (Guel Jeturk in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury) takes on Harij Azm, the earnest knight whose love potion request drives the plot. Azakami admitted feeling out of his depth at the audition, calling the source material's atmosphere "too beautiful" for his rougher sensibilities. Once he connected with Harij's straightforward humanity, though, his hesitation lifted. He also praised his co-star, calling Komatsu's Rose "incredibly charming."

A Million-Copy Love Story Gets Its Anime Team

HoreMajo adapts Eiko Mutsuhana's (六つ花えいこ) novel series, published by Futabasha under its M Novels f imprint with character designs by vient. A manga adaptation by Kamada is published through KADOKAWA's FLOS COMIC label. The franchise has surpassed 1 million copies in print.

The story follows Rose, a witch living alone by a lake who secretly harbors feelings for the knight Harij Azm. One day Harij asks her to brew a love potion, and Rose's heart sinks: it's clearly meant for someone else. She agrees anyway, treasuring whatever time together the task allows. Director Keizō Kusakawa describes the setup as "a mutual unrequited love story," suggesting the feelings run both ways even if neither character realizes it.

Kusakawa, directing a romance for the first time, is joined by Wataru Watari on series composition. Watari created My Youth Romantic Comedy Is Wrong, As I Expected (Oregairu). Masakazu Ishikawa handles character design for animation studio Diomedéa, with Yayoi Tateishi directing sound and Sōshi Matsumura composing the score.

Looking Ahead

HoreMajo premieres in October 2026 in Japan. No international streaming partner has been confirmed yet.

English-speaking fans can read ahead: Yen Press publishes the manga as Hi, I'm a Witch, and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion, with five volumes currently available. The light novel is licensed by Cross Infinite World.

The anime's official X account (@horemajo_anime) is running a signed illustration board giveaway from Komatsu and Azakami to mark the teaser reveal, with three winners selected by lottery. The ongoing Chayamachi Oshi Festival 2026, a pop-culture event in Osaka that started June 20, will also screen the teaser PV and hand out promotional flyers.
