The Teaser Skips Ahead to Autumn
According to the announcement from Japanese anime news site Anime Hack, the teaser picks the story up roughly half a year after Mitsumi Iwakura's high school entrance. The season is turning to autumn, and both Mitsumi and Sousuke Shima appear as they settle into their Tokyo school life. Season 1 covered Mitsumi's spring arrival from Ishikawa Prefecture, so the footage points to the next stretch of the school year.
The date reveal also came with a new commemorative illustration drawn by Manami Umeshita (梅下麻奈未), the series' character designer and chief animation director. Beyond that, the announcement keeps production details close to the chest. The Anime Hack report doesn't list a director, episode count, or studio for the new season, so those reveals are still to come.
"Not Something You Can Take for Granted"
Tomoyo Kurosawa (黒沢ともよ), the voice of Kumiko Oumae in Sound! Euphonium and Phosphophyllite in Land of the Lustrous, returns as Mitsumi. In her comment she said she has been restless with excitement at the thought of meeting Mitsumi and the others again, and that having the same members gather back together after several years "isn't something you can take for granted." She added that she wants to run through the story with an earnestness worthy of Mitsumi herself.
Akinori Egoshi (江越彬紀), who plays Sousuke Shima, said Season 2 blends what has changed and what hasn't among everything the cast built up in the first season. Recording it, he said, made him feel both the difficulty and the preciousness of an everyday life that doesn't come back. He also slipped in the show's Japanese fan nickname, Sukirō, saying he can't wait to enjoy it with viewers again.
The Setup, in Case You Skipped Season 1
Skip and Loafer adapts Misaki Takamatsu's manga, serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon magazine since 2018. Mitsumi is a 15-year-old from Ishikawa Prefecture who enters a competitive Tokyo high school as the top scorer on its entrance exam. She has the grades, but she's a bit of an airhead, and big-city social life doesn't come easily. Her earnest, head-on way of dealing with people slowly wins over everyone around her, starting with the effortlessly charming Shima.
The first season was animated by P.A. Works and aired from April to June 2023 in Japan.
Looking Ahead
The April 2027 premiere window puts Skip and Loafer 2nd season in the Spring 2027 anime lineup, four years after the first season's run. No international streaming partner has been announced for Season 2 yet. Season 1 streams on Crunchyroll, which makes it the natural place to catch up or rewatch before the new episodes arrive.
