Yūto Uemura Voices the World's Strongest Mage
Yūto Uemura (上村祐翔), best known as Thorfinn in Vinland Saga and Atsushi Nakajima in Bungo Stray Dogs, voices Ars Regan, the overpowered protagonist who just wants a quiet life. In a report on Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie, Uemura described the character as "a solid, unshakable person who doesn't flinch at anything," noting that Ars has "a unique sense of distance in conversations that makes him hard to pin down." He added that the anime should be enjoyable for both longtime novel readers and newcomers.
The announcement came alongside a teaser visual showing Ars standing against a ruined landscape dominated by the Tower of Babel, weapon in hand with a confident smirk. A teaser PV followed, previewing Ars demolishing monsters with overwhelming magic and hinting at new encounters at the academy.
What Is The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan?
The premise is built around a simple contradiction: Ars Regan is the single strongest mage alive, sitting at the top of a system with over 100,000 registered mages. He's also completely done with the job. To secure an easy post-retirement life, Ars hides his identity and enrolls in a magic academy, where he takes on the role of mentor to younger students while continuing to fight monsters on the side.
Izushiro's original light novel has been running through Hobby Japan's HJ Bunko imprint, with 20 volumes published so far. A manga adaptation by Karu Yoneshiro titled The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan: The Alternative ran for 10 volumes through Square Enix. To celebrate the anime announcement, a new prequel manga, The Greatest Magicmaster's Retirement Plan Zero: The Secret Chronicles of the Beginning, will launch this winter on Hobby Japan's Comic Fire web manga platform, with Yoneshiro returning as artist. The prequel covers Ars's story before he enrolls at the Second Magic Academy.
Original creator Izushiro shared a comment saying the anime makes him feel like he has "finally become someone," thanking the illustrators, manga artists, publisher, anime staff, and readers who supported the series.
