A Three-Year Track for a Cyberpunk Icon

MILLENNIUM PARADE, the genre-crossing collective led by King Gnu frontman Daiki Tsuneta, will close each episode of Science SARU's (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Devilman Crybaby) new Ghost in the Shell anime with "Blue." The track features Saya Gray and Daniel Caesar.

According to Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie, Tsuneta and Saya Gray went into the studio together roughly three years ago to begin writing the song. Daniel Caesar, whom Tsuneta met while traveling, later joined to complete it. In a comment accompanying the reveal, Tsuneta called the finished full-length version "truly wonderful" and said he looks forward to audiences hearing it. Saya Gray described the sessions as "stimulating and truly fun," adding that she was excited by the crossover of different artistic worldviews and cultures.

This marks MILLENNIUM PARADE's second time working on a Ghost in the Shell production. The group previously performed "Fly with me," the opening theme for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 on Netflix.

New PV and Anime Expo Premiere

A newly released fourth promotional video sets "Blue" against footage that spotlights the inner world of protagonist Motoko Kusanagi, the full-body prosthetic cyborg at the center of Shirow Masamune's cyberpunk manga, and the characters around her.

The anime will also debut in North America at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles, running July 2 through 5. The "Special Panel & Premiere" event includes a US premiere screening of episodes 1 and 2, a production staff talk show, and a signing session with director Mokochan and character designer/chief animation director Shūhei Handa (半田修平). Mokochan is making his directorial debut on the series after working as an animator on Dan Da Dan and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off under Science SARU founder Masaaki Yuasa.

Looking Ahead

The Ghost in the Shell premieres July 7 on Kansai TV and Fuji TV's "Ka-Anival!!" Tuesday night block at 11:00 PM JST. Prime Video will stream the series. The full voice cast has not yet been announced, with less than a month until broadcast.

Tō Enjoe (円城塔) handles series composition and scripts, with music direction by Taisei Iwasaki and additional music by Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka. Music production is by Flying Dog.
