A Trilogy Opener With a Golden Globe Nomination
Infinity Castle Part 1: Akaza's Return opened in Japanese theaters on July 18, 2025, as the first chapter of a planned trilogy adapting the manga's climactic arc. The films stage the final battle between the Demon Slayer Corps and the demons inside the Infinity Castle, the demons' stronghold. ufotable produces the films, as it has every entry in the anime series since its TV debut in April 2019.
The film also picked up a nomination for Best Animated Film at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, where it was the only Japanese production in the category. It did not win, but the nomination kept the film in the awards conversation well after its theatrical run.
Koyoharu Gotouge's original manga is complete at 23 volumes from Shueisha, with more than 220 million copies in circulation. The story follows Tanjiro Kamado, who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after demons kill his family, fighting to turn his demon-transformed sister Nezuko back into a human.
Looking Ahead
International fans actually get the film one day earlier. Crunchyroll begins streaming Infinity Castle Part 1 worldwide on July 28, 2026, and Netflix will carry the film across Asia except Japan, mainland China, and India, Anime News Network reported. The Lawson sticker bonus, though, has not been announced for any market outside Japan.
The Anime Anime report does not mention release timing for the trilogy's second chapter. For readers who want the source material, the manga is published in English by Viz Media.
