For Halloween on Saturday, October 31, an animeanime.jp feature recommends three anime with yokai and ghosts that can be watched on the streaming service ABEMA: Dandadan, Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube and Natsume's Book of Friends.
Dandadan is based on Yukinobu Tatsu's manga, which runs on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+. It follows Momo, a high school student from a family of spirit mediums, and her occult-obsessed classmate Okarun as they fight supernatural threats and aliens.
Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube adapts the manga by Shou Makura (story) and Takeshi Okano (art), which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1999. Its hero, Meisuke "Nube" Nueno, is a teacher with spiritual powers and a "demon hand" that holds a demon's power. He risks his life to protect his students from yokai and evil spirits. Many episodes draw on school ghost stories and yokai from around Japan. The feature notes that a new TV anime aired in 2025, the first in about 26 years.
Natsume's Book of Friends is based on Yuki Midorikawa's manga, serialized in Hakusensha's LaLa. Natsume, a boy who has been able to see yokai since childhood, inherits the Book of Friends left by his grandmother Reiko. With Nyanko-sensei, a yokai who calls himself Natsume's bodyguard, he returns names to the yokai written in the book.
The feature does not say which seasons of each series are on ABEMA.
