Five Years Later, Asta's Fight Resumes

The Black Clover anime has been off the air since March 2021. Japanese entertainment news site Oricon News reported that the 2nd Season will premiere in October 2026 on TV Tokyo, reuniting director Ayataka Tanemura with Studio Pierrot (Naruto, Bleach) for a continuation of the shonen fantasy series.

Tanemura took over directorial duties for episodes 153 through 170 of the original series and went on to helm the 2023 theatrical film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. He returns after directing the anime's final arc and the 2023 film. Joining him are series composer Keiichirō Ochi, character designer Itsuko Takeda, and composer Minako Seki.

A Recap for the Uninitiated

Alongside the premiere announcement, a 10-minute recap video covering the entirety of Season 1 has been released on YouTube. The video was previously exclusive to the Black Clover Exhibition, a touring event held in Tokyo and Osaka from March through May 2026. It now serves as a convenient refresher for fans who haven't revisited the series since it went off the air five years ago.

Black Clover follows Asta, a boy born without magic in a world where magic is everything, and his rival Yuno as they compete to become the Wizard King. The manga by Yūki Tabata launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2015, moved to Shueisha's Jump GIGA magazine in December 2023, and concluded its serialization in May 2026 with over 24.5 million copies in circulation.

The original TV anime ran for 170 episodes from 2017 to 2021, followed by the Sword of the Wizard King film in 2023 and a stage play adaptation.

Looking Ahead

Black Clover Season 2's first episode will get a world premiere screening at Anime Expo 2026 on July 4 in Los Angeles, giving attendees the earliest look at the new season before the October broadcast begins.

On the international front, Crunchyroll has confirmed streaming rights for the new season outside Asia. The original 170-episode run and the Sword of the Wizard King film are both available on the platform now, making it easy to catch up ahead of the October premiere.

The source manga is published in English by Viz Media, with volumes available both in print and digitally through the Shonen Jump app.
