Testarossa, Ultima, and Carrera Step Into the Spotlight
The second key visual for cour 2 centers on the Primordial Demons Testarossa, Ultima, and Carrera. All three have made brief appearances in earlier seasons, but as Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie reports, cour 2 marks their full anime introduction. In front of the demon trio, the visual positions Chloe (voiced by Azusa Tadokoro) and Granbell (Daisuke Ono) alongside a mysterious figure who bears Chloe's likeness.
Director Naokatsu Tsuda continues at the helm for Season 4 at Eight Bit, with Hitomi Ogawa on series composition and Ryōma Ebata handling character design. The season premiered in April as the first of five planned split cours, airing on Nippon Television's Friday Anime Night block. Cour 2 begins July 3.
A second PV accompanies the key visual, previewing the new opening and ending sequences.
Daoko and Azusa Tadokoro Take Over the Theme Songs
Cour 2 brings a full theme-song swap. The new opening, "TACTIC," comes from Daoko, the singer behind "Uchiage Hanabi" with Kenshi Yonezu for the anime film Fireworks. For "TACTIC," she reunites with TeddyLoid, her collaborator on the viral "Me!Me!Me!" animated short from Japan Animator Expo, with producer Giga rounding out the team. Daoko described the track as a high-energy song that channels Season 4's darker, more tense atmosphere, noting that the lyrics link to the story.
The new ending theme, "Himunaru" (ヒムナル), comes from Azusa Tadokoro (Luculia Marlborough in Violet Evergarden), who also voices Chloe in the series. Tadokoro said she wrote the song while reflecting on Chloe's yearning for reunion, channeling "prayers for her strength and her impossibly long days."
Tears of the Azure Sea Heads to Home Video
Separately, the February 2026 theatrical film That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 25. Japanese streaming service U-NEXT begins exclusive distribution on June 26, three months ahead of the physical release.
The special limited Blu-ray includes a booklet with a cover by character concept artist Mitz Vah, a bonus disc containing stage greeting and 2025 Sapporo Snow Festival event footage, and a cast audio commentary. The storage box features art by character designer Ryōma Ebata, with manga artist Taiki Kawakami illustrating the digi-jacket.
Looking Ahead
Cour 2 premieres July 3 on the Friday Anime Night slot at 11:00 p.m. JST, with BS11 following on Saturdays at 10:00 p.m. Crunchyroll streams the series internationally, and Amazon Prime Video also carries it. With five split cours planned, Season 4 still has a long stretch of content ahead after this second block wraps.
The source manga by Taiki Kawakami (art) and Fuse (story), based on Fuse's light novels and serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Sirius, is published in English by Kodansha USA.
