Shoko Steps Into High School in the Finale's First Character Visual

CloverWorks (Spy x Family, Bocchi the Rock!) and director Sōichi Masui are bringing Hajime Kamoshida's light novel series to its conclusion with Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend, and the latest visual centers on Shōko Makinohara. Fans of the franchise know Shōko at two very different points in her life, and this new image revealed by Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie shows her as a high school student for the first time in the film's promotional campaign.

The visual is getting a major rollout. Starting today, June 16, a large-scale version of the artwork has been mounted on the exterior wall of the Bic Camera Fujisawa store in Kanagawa Prefecture, the real-world region that serves as the series' setting. The display runs through October 31, well past the film's October 16 premiere.

Advance Tickets Get the Clear Card Treatment

Alongside the visual reveal, the production unveiled a commemorative advance ticket design featuring the new Shōko artwork as an A5-sized clear card. The ticket gives fans a physical collectible tied to the series' farewell campaign. Pricing and retail details were not included in the announcement.

A full main trailer also dropped on the Aniplex YouTube channel, previewing the film as the final chapter in Sakuta Azusagawa's story.

A Full Returning Cast for the Series Farewell

The film brings back the entire principal cast for one last outing. Kaito Ishikawa returns as Sakuta Azusagawa, Asami Seto as Mai Sakurajima, and Inori Minase as the Shōko Makinohara featured in the new visual. The lineup also includes Sora Amamiya as Uzuki Hirokawa, Konomi Kohara as Sara Himeji, Manaka Iwami as Miori Mitō, and Atsumi Tanezaki as Rio Futaba, among others.

Masahiro Yokotani handles the screenplay, with Satomi Tamura on character design and fox capture plan returning for the score. The film adapts the final stretch of Kamoshida's Dengeki Bunko light novel series, published by KADOKAWA.

Looking Ahead

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend opens in Japanese theaters on October 16, 2026. The Fujisawa billboard display runs from today through October 31, keeping the series' home turf decorated well past opening day.

No international theatrical distributor or streaming partner has been confirmed for this film yet. Previous entries in the franchise, including the TV series and the Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl film, have been available on Crunchyroll in North America. Aniplex of America has handled English-language distribution for the series to date, so a similar arrangement is likely for the finale. The original light novels are published in English by Yen Press.
