Anna Nagase and Fuka Izumi, who voice Koyuki Hikawa and Miki Azumi in The Ramparts of Ice, talked about the TV anime's second season in an interview published by Animate Times on October 30, 2026. Season 2, based on Kocha Agasawa's manga, airs nationwide in Japan every Thursday at 11:56 p.m. JST on 28 TBS-affiliated stations.

Nagase said many friends contacted her after season 1 aired, including former elementary and middle school classmates who liked the manga. Viewers reacted to Koyuki in very different ways. Some of her acquaintances called the character selfish and annoying.

In season 2, Nagase said, Koyuki becomes more and more aware of Minato Amamiya, and the wide view of the world she once had gradually narrows. Nagase began focusing on her scene partner in each moment, such as her exchanges with Shoya Chiba, who voices Minato. She described this as a shift that happened naturally rather than a deliberate choice.

Izumi was already a reader of the manga. She said she thinks she tried to play Miki brighter than in season 1. Miki often appears just after scenes where Koyuki and Minato are feeling low, and Izumi saw her as the character who supplies that change in mood. Looking back on season 1, Izumi singled out a device in which the ending theme's intro starts playing early, over the closing scene.

Both actors called the season 2 premiere dark. Nagase said season 2 recording began three or four months after season 1 recording, but the finished episode still carried the same strained feelings. Izumi pointed to a season 2 scene in which Koyuki asks Miki for romantic advice for the first time. She said the conversation ends a chain of misunderstandings that runs through season 1.

Asked what they would tell their characters, Izumi said she would only tell them it is okay to rely on others, and only if they asked for help. Nagase said she could do little more than watch over them. "Once you've noticed a feeling, you can't lie to it anymore," she said (translated).
