A Tales of Wedding Rings Team Takes On a Far Bloodier Job
The staff list reads like a reunion. Chief director Takashi Naoya (直谷たかし) previously handled Am I Actually the Strongest? and the Tales of Wedding Rings series. Staple Entertainment, one of the two studios on board, produced Tales of Wedding Rings as well as 2025's Watari-kun's ****** Is About to Collapse. Its partner studio is Satelight (Macross Delta, Symphogear), whose recent credits per the Oricon News report include Drops of God and Psyren.
Sitting in the director's chair is Matsuo Asami (浅見松雄), who has handled episode direction on a string of recent shows including The Villainess Is Adored by the Prince of the Neighbor Kingdom and Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table. Beyond what Oricon lists, the announcement also credits Naoya with series composition, Sei Tateishi with character design, and Masanori Akita and Yūichi Tsuchiya with the music.
Fight Evil With Evil
Murciélago is a buddy action series built on a nasty premise: Kuroko Koumori is a mass murderer sitting on death row until the state stays her execution and puts her to work as a sanctioned executioner. Alongside her partner Hinako Tozakura, she hunts the criminals the police can't touch. It is violent, stylish, and very much a seinen title, which makes a TV adaptation a bold call.
Yoshimurakana (よしむらかな) has been drawing the manga in Square Enix's seinen magazine Young Gangan since 2013. The series reached volume 28 in January 2026 and has over 2.3 million copies in circulation. Yen Press publishes the English edition, which hit volume 26 in February 2026.
A Teaser Trailer Timed to Anime Expo
The announcement landed over Anime Expo weekend, courtesy of NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan, and came with a "super teaser" trailer on the NBCUniversal Anime/Music YouTube channel plus a teaser visual. Staff comments published alongside the reveal note that voice recording is already in progress, though not a single cast name has been announced yet.
Beyond the staff list, Oricon's report is light on production details. There is no word on episode count, broadcast network, or which of the manga's arcs the adaptation will cover.
Looking Ahead
The series is set to premiere on TV in 2027, with no month or season attached yet. International fans are already covered on the streaming front: HIDIVE will stream the anime exclusively in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. No partner has been announced for other regions.
Anyone who wants to read ahead can do so legally. Yen Press has published the manga in English since 2017, so there is a deep backlog to work through before the anime arrives. With recording underway and only a teaser out so far, cast reveals look like the next beat to watch for.
