JO1's Mamehara Pulls Double Duty as Lead and OP Singer

The manga-to-drama pipeline keeps delivering. Fuufu to 16-sai: Kyouki no Rinjin (夫婦と16歳~狂気の隣人~), based on Pumpkin's Shonen Jump+ Indies series, follows a 61-year-old woman named Yoshiko Shiraishi who genuinely believes she's a 16-year-old beauty. She becomes fixated on her neighbor Hiro, a kind newlywed company employee, and her "pure feelings" slowly spiral into something far more unsettling.

Rino Katase, a veteran of Japanese film and TV known for the Gokudo no Onna-tachi (Wives of the Yakuza) franchise, plays Yoshiko. Issei Mamehara of boy group JO1 co-leads as Hiro in what manga and anime news site Comic Natalie reports is his first drama lead role. He is also performing the opening theme "Murasakiiro" under his solo artist name MÁME. In an official comment, he said he was "thrilled" to both star in and sing for the same project, adding that recording while still in the middle of filming kept the performance fresh.

The ending theme, "Doppelgänger" by FRIDAY CATS, a four-member rock band formed in spring 2026, fits the show's psychological-thriller tone. Vocalist Nike noted that the song was written about "the two sides of another self," describing it as a track where "malice and goodwill mix" in a way that should complement the drama's unsettling world.

Two New Faces Deepen the Mystery

The newly announced additions fill roles tied directly to Yoshiko's backstory. Yurina Yanagi (柳ゆり菜), who viewers may recognize from the Yuru Camp live-action drama series, plays Natsumi Yoshida, described as an important figure who knows Yoshiko's secret past. Yoko Natsuki (夏樹陽子), a veteran actress active since the late 1970s, joins as Yoshiko Kuroiwa, the protagonist's best friend.

A newly released trailer captures the creeping menace of Yoshiko closing in on the couple next door. The full confirmed cast also includes Yui Okada as Hiro's wife Sae, model Meari Hayashi as the idealized 16-year-old version of Yoshiko that exists in her mind, Kinari Hirano as Hiro's coworker Masashi Kawaguchi, Yui Kitamura as colleague Nanako Anezaki, and Mayuko Nishiyama as Sae's mother Shiho Hiroki.
