What the Full Trailer Shows
The newly released trailer for Cyborg 009 Nemesis wastes no time establishing the stakes. The original 00-Number cyborgs, led by 009/Joe Shimamura, face off against nine rival cyborgs called Nemesis, a group convinced the originals can no longer lead the world to peace.
The trailer's standout sequence pits Joe against Graviton (N009), the gravity-manipulating leader of Nemesis. Graviton's raw power overwhelms Joe in the footage, and the PV includes dialogue that frames their ideological clash: Graviton calls himself and his team "a necessary evil" willing to accept casualties for the sake of justice, while Joe vows to protect anyone Graviton threatens. Beyond that flagship matchup, the trailer cuts between parallel battles across all nine pairs of cyborgs, each wielding distinct abilities.
The animation is handled by Alect, the Sapporo-based CG studio behind Netflix's Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune, with director Hideki Ambo returning from the same project.
Sukima Switch Takes the Ending Theme
The ending theme is "Kuraimaru" (クライマル) by Sukima Switch, the duo best known to anime fans for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood's "Golden Time Lover" and multiple Naruto franchise themes. In a statement, the duo said they were "incredibly happy to be part of the Cyborg 009 series, which has been beloved across generations," calling the battle scenes where each cyborg fights for their own vision of justice "riveting."
The opening theme, "Taga Tame ni" (誰がために, roughly "For Whose Sake"), is performed by rock singer Kyōko. The song is an arrangement of the iconic 1979 Cyborg 009 TV anime opening, with lyrics originally written by franchise creator Shōtarō Ishinomori.
Advance Screening with Lead Cast
A day before the streaming premiere, the production will host an advance screening at the Shinjuku Wald 9 theater in Tokyo on July 18. Yūki Kaji (Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan) as Joe, Yūichi Nakamura (Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Graviton, and Saori Hayami (Yor Forger in Spy x Family) as Françoise Arnoul will take the stage for behind-the-scenes talk sessions about the recording process and highlights of the series.
Two showtimes are scheduled: a 4:10 PM session with a post-screening talk and a 6:50 PM session with a pre-screening talk. Tickets are ¥2,900 (tax included), with pre-sale through Ticket Pia starting June 27. All attendees receive an exclusive B2 poster.
The broader cast features veteran voice talent on both sides. The original 00-Number team includes Mamoru Miyano as 002/Jet Link and Tomokazu Sugita as 004/Albert Heinrich, while the Nemesis side features Hiroshi Kamiya as N003/Crack, Ayane Sakura as N008/Depths, and Kikuko Inoue as N004/Opuro.
Looking Ahead
Cyborg 009 Nemesis streams all three episodes (each roughly 30 minutes) starting July 19, 2026, at midnight JST. The July 19 premiere aligns with the manga's anniversary: exactly 62 years since the original Cyborg 009 debuted in Weekly Shōnen King on July 19, 1964.
In Japan, the series will be available across a wide range of platforms including ABEMA Premium, d Anime Store, U-NEXT, Prime Video, Hulu, DMM TV, and others. No international streaming partner has been confirmed. The franchise has had Western distribution before, including a 2012 theatrical film (009 Re:Cyborg), so international pickup is possible but unannounced.
The source manga by Shōtarō Ishinomori ran across multiple magazines for over 30 years and remains one of his defining works. Cyborg 009 Nemesis, produced by Ishimori Production, was first announced for the franchise's 60th anniversary in 2024.
