7co Brings a Playful New Sound to Season 2

The second trailer for You and I Are Polar Opposites Season 2 dropped over the weekend, and it comes with a major music reveal. 7co — the project pairing vocalist Nanako Ashida (芦田菜名子) with producer RYUJA — will perform "Nekojyarashi" (猫じゃらし, roughly "Cat Grass" or "Tickle Grass") as the new opening theme, Animate Times reported.

The duo has been on a tear. They were selected for Spotify's RADAR: Early Noise 2025 program, and their track "0.0000%" hit No. 1 on China's QQ Music J-POP weekly chart. In 2026, they became the only Japanese act chosen for Shazam's Fast Forward 2026 initiative. "Nekojyarashi" doubles as their major debut single, releasing digitally on July 5 — the same day Season 2 premieres.

Ashida shared that reading the original manga made her "seriously look for ways to go back to being a student." She also admitted that she loved Tani's cat Tempura so much that every early demo had the word "Tempura" worked into the lyrics. For the final recording, she sang with protagonist Suzuki in mind, using a slightly different voice than her usual style. The song's title — nekojyarashi, the common grass that grows everywhere — is meant to capture the ticklish feeling of a crush woven into ordinary school life.

What PV #2 Previews

Set to the new opening track, the second trailer highlights Suzuki and Tani's daily routine with a warm, easygoing energy. But the real tease is what's happening around them. Yamada and Nishi's relationship is starting to shift beyond friendship, and the preview plays it with a bittersweet edge. Meanwhile, Taira is still stuck in his own head — but his words appear to spark something in Higashi, who begins confronting new questions about herself.

For anyone who watched Season 1's 12-episode run from January through March 2026, these threads are exactly where the finale left off. The adaptation is produced at Lapin Track under director Takakazu Nagatomo, with tofubeats returning on the score and Teruko Utsumi handling series composition.

About the Series

Based on the manga by Agasawa Kōcha (阿賀沢紅茶) serialized on Shueisha's Jump+ until 2024, You and I Are Polar Opposites follows Suzuki — an energetic girl who can't stop worrying about what others think — and Tani, a quiet guy who always speaks his mind. They're opposites in every way, yet through misunderstandings and mutual respect, they slowly grow closer. The manga picked up a string of awards including the 2024 Manga Taisho (7th place) and the Digital Comic Award 2024 in the men's category.

The anime stars Sayumi Suzushiro as Suzuki, Shōgo Sakata as Tani, Tomori Kusunoki as Honda, Miyuri Shimabukuro as Higashi, and Anji Iwata as Yamada, among others.

Looking Ahead

Season 2 of You and I Are Polar Opposites premieres July 5, 2026 at 5:00 PM on the MBS/TBS 28-station network, with ABEMA and Prime Video streaming episodes from 5:30 PM the same day. Crunchyroll streams the series internationally with subtitles and dubs in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, and more. The source manga is available in English from Viz Media and on MANGA Plus.

7co's "Nekojyarashi" releases as a digital single on July 5 via Sony Music Labels. The duo is also set to perform at SUMMER SONIC 2026 this summer. Season 1 Blu-ray volumes are currently on sale through Shochiku, with the second volume releasing on May 27.
