Shirahama and Watanabe Look Ahead to Season 2

The renewal arrived with comments from both creator and director. Shirahama, who also drew a new endcard featuring Coco and the full atelier lineup for the finale, offered a personal endorsement. She wants to "stamp her seal of approval" that waiting for the next season will be worth it, and urged fans to look forward to what the production team has in store.

Watanabe thanked viewers for following the first season and described what lies ahead. "The story grows bigger and deeper, bringing new lessons and discoveries about magic to Coco and friends," he wrote, pointing to new locations and new characters as reasons to stay invested. Both comments arrived via Japanese anime news site Anime Anime alongside the Season 2 announcement.

An Eisner-Winning Fantasy Goes to Screen

Witch Hat Atelier adapts Kamome Shirahama's ongoing manga of the same name, serialized in Kodansha's Morning Two since 2016. The story follows Coco, a girl in a world where magic belongs only to a chosen few, after she stumbles onto a forbidden truth about how spells are actually cast. Sixteen volumes are out in Japan, and the series has cleared 9 million copies in print worldwide. It won the Eisner Award for Best Asian Material in 2020, plus manga prizes in France, Spain, and South Korea.

The anime adaptation at BUG FILMS (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) is directed by Ayumu Watanabe (Children of the Sea), with scripts by Hiroshi Seko. Season 1 ran 13 episodes from April to June 2026.

The voice cast is led by Rena Motomura as Coco, Natsuki Hanae as Qifrey, Hibiku Yamamura as Agott, Yuichi Nakamura as Olruggio, and Kotono Mitsuishi as Alaira.

Season 1 Blu-ray Sets Incoming

New jacket art for the Season 1 Blu-ray releases was also revealed. The first volume, featuring Shirahama's original illustrations of Coco, Agott, Tetia, and Richeh, releases July 29, 2026. The second volume, with newly drawn art of Qifrey and Olruggio, follows on September 30, 2026.

Looking Ahead

No premiere window has been announced for Season 2. Updates will come through the official site and the show's X account.

Season 1 streamed on Crunchyroll outside Asia, and Crunchyroll has already confirmed it will carry Season 2 as well. The source manga is published in English by Kodansha USA, with all volumes available digitally and in print.
