The DanMachi Creator's Fantasy Hit Keeps Rolling
Wistoria: Wand and Sword started as a collaboration between two heavy hitters: Fujino Ōmori, the author behind Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (DanMachi), wrote the original story, while manga artist Toshi Aoi brought the world to life with lush, detailed art. The series follows Will Serfort, a student at Regarden Magical Academy who can't use magic in a world where magic is everything. It's a sword-and-sorcery school fantasy. The gap between Will's raw physical talent and his classmates' spellcasting gives the show its central tension.
The anime adaptation, produced at BN Pictures and Actas under general director Tatsuya Yoshihara (Black Clover), has run for two full seasons. Season 2 wrapped its 12-episode run on June 28, and the Season 3 confirmation came the same day, according to Oricon News. That same-day renewal signals confidence from the production side.
New Visual and Teaser Trailer
The Season 3 announcement arrived with two pieces of promotional material. Character designer and chief animation director Sayaka Ono drew a commemorative visual for the occasion, and a short teaser trailer went up on Bandai Namco Filmworks' YouTube channel.
Bandai Namco Filmworks also revealed details for the Season 2 Blu-ray release. The upper volume ships August 26, followed by the lower volume on November 27. The two bookcase illustrations are designed to connect into a single panoramic image when placed side by side.
Looking Ahead
No premiere window for Season 3 has been announced. Season 1 aired in Summer 2024 and Season 2 followed in Spring 2026, so fans are likely looking at a gap of at least a year before new episodes arrive.
Crunchyroll currently streams both seasons with English dubs available. For readers who want to get ahead of the anime, Kodansha USA publishes the manga in English, with volumes available in both print and digital editions. The Japanese manga reached its 15th volume in April 2026, so there's plenty of source material left for the anime to adapt.
The returning staff for Season 3 hasn't been confirmed beyond Ono's involvement with the commemorative visual, but the core team of Yoshihara, director Hideaki Nakano, and composer Yūki Hayashi steered the show through two seasons.
