Why Rimuru and Leon Are Fighting

Japanese anime news outlet Animate Times published the synopsis and ten advance stills for episode 91 on August 18. The setup is short but loaded. Rimuru and Leon trade sword blows, and the duel is less about settling a score than about information: Rimuru wants to know what Granbell is really after, and crossing blades with Leon is how he intends to find out.

The second beat belongs to Luminous. Mid-battle with "Maria," as the synopsis puts it, she notices that whatever had been sealed inside the ark of her palace is gone. The synopsis stops right there; what was inside, and who took it, will have to wait for the episode itself.

Episode 91, titled "Shi to Shōshitsu" (Death and Disappearance), follows episode 90, "Seihō Dōran" (roughly "Unrest in the West"). The franchise counts episodes continuously across seasons, which makes this the nineteenth episode of Season 4.

A Wolf's Rain Veteran on Storyboards

The episode credits are worth a look. The script comes from Akiko Waba, who also wrote this season's episode 85, and the storyboard is by Tensai Okamura (Wolf's Rain, Darker than Black). Episode direction is shared by 徐傳峰 and Kōji Sasaki, and the chief animation direction credit spans six entries, including the company Adtech. Eight Bit remains the animation studio, as it has been since the series began.

Where Season 4 Stands

Season 4 premiered on April 3, 2026 in Nippon TV's Friday Anime Night block and runs as a split broadcast of five cours (three-month blocks); the second cour has been airing since July 3. Per the official synopsis, Tempest comes out of the Founder's Festival with new diplomatic ties and starts working toward a world where humans and monsters live side by side. Not everyone is on board. Granbell Rosso, a former hero who heads the Five Elders of the Kingdom of Siltrozzo, and his granddaughter Mariabel treat Rimuru's rise as a threat to humanity and scheme against him, while Demon Lord Leon starts moving on an objective of his own in the golden land of El Dorado. The synopsis also teases that another hero is about to awaken.

Miho Okasaki returns as Rimuru, with Lynn as Luminous, Daisuke Ono as Granbell, and Inori Minase as Mariabel leading a deep returning cast.

Episode 91 airs Friday, August 21 at 11:00 p.m. on Nippon TV's 30-station national network, then on BS11 on August 22, AT-X on August 23, and Animax on September 12. In Japan, subscription and pay-per-view streaming begins rolling out on August 23 at 11:00 p.m., with catch-up streaming rolling out from noon on August 26; the official portal site has the full rundown.
