New PV Teases Fresh Threats for Tetsuo and Yukio
The Season 2 announcement dropped right after the Season 1 finale aired. The new PV, now on TOHO animation's YouTube channel, is packed with new footage showing giant robot Yukio facing a fresh round of threats. New characters also make their first appearances, previewing where the story goes next.
Snowball Earth is set on a version of our planet buried under ice and snow, where humanity hangs on amid kaiju attacks. The series follows Tetsuo Yabusame, a shy kid whose only friend is Yukio, a massive robot. The manga, by Yuhiro Tsujitsugu (辻次夕日郎), has been serialized in Shogakukan's Monthly Big Comic Spirits magazine since 2021. Eleven volumes are currently in print in Japan, and Viz Media publishes the English-language edition in North America.
The anime is directed by Munehisa Sakai (One Piece, Zombie Land Saga) at Studio KAI, with Shigeru Murakoshi on series composition and Toshiya Kōno handling character design and chief animation direction. Season 1 ran for 13 episodes on Nippon TV's Friday Anime Night block from April 3 to June 26, 2026.
Cast and Crew Celebrate With Illustrations
Alongside the renewal, manga and anime news site Comic Natalie reported that eight celebration illustrations were released. Contributors include original creator Tsujitsugu, director Sakai, and character designer Kōno, plus voice actors Takuto Yoshinaga (Tetsuo Yabusame), Daisuke Hirakawa (Yukio), and Ryōta Suzuki (Lonely Iwaki).
Hirakawa, who also voices Kakyoin in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Enmu in Demon Slayer, plays the giant robot at the heart of the series. The broader Season 1 cast includes Ami Koshimizu as Aoi Nogi, Kengo Kawanishi as Nayuta Izumi, and Tomokazu Sugita as Isshi Sagami, among others.
Two Hololive VTubers also contributed artwork: Omaru Polka and Momosuzu Nene, both of whom hosted watch-along streams during the show's first season.
Looking Ahead
No broadcast window has been announced for Season 2 yet. Season 1 is streaming on Crunchyroll across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the CIS, and the Indian Subcontinent. Disney+ carries the series internationally, and Hulu streams it in the United States.
For fans who want to read ahead, Viz Media publishes the manga in English, with multiple volumes already available. The source manga continues its serialization in Monthly Big Comic Spirits, so there is plenty of material left to adapt.
