From Hawaiians to Moving In Together
Season 5, which wrapped its 12-episode run on June 26, adapted the Hawaiians Arc across two cours on the MBS/TBS/CBC Animeism late-night block. The Season 6 announcement dropped immediately after the finale, as reported by Japanese anime news outlet Animate Times. No broadcast window has been set yet.
Alongside the announcement, character designer Kanna Hirayama (平山寛菜) drew a new celebration illustration showing Kazuya, Chizuru, and Mini raising glasses in a toast. It's a fitting image for a franchise that just keeps pouring.
Six Seasons of Rental Romance
For the uninitiated, Rent-a-Girlfriend follows Kazuya Kinoshita, a college student who introduces a rental girlfriend, Chizuru Mizuhara, to his family as the real deal. Unable to come clean, Kazuya keeps the charade going while falling for Chizuru for real. The manga by Reiji Miyajima (宮島礼吏) is serialized by Kodansha, and the anime has been produced at TMS Entertainment (Detective Conan, Lupin III) since its 2020 debut, with director Kazuomi Koga returning for multiple seasons.
The Season 5 cast remains intact: Shun Horie as Kazuya, Sora Amamiya as Chizuru, Aoi Yuki as Mami Nanami, Nao Toyama as Ruka Sarashina, Rie Takahashi as Sumi Sakurasawa, and Yu Serizawa as Mini Yaemori. No cast or staff changes have been announced for Season 6.
The Cohabitation Arc title alone signals a shift in the dynamic. After five seasons of missed confessions and elaborate excuses, the subtitle suggests Kazuya and Chizuru's living situation is about to change. Readers of Miyajima's manga know what that means, but the anime-only crowd will have to wait for specifics.
Looking Ahead
No premiere date or episode count has been announced for Season 6. Given that Season 5 premiered in April 2026, the earliest realistic window for the Cohabitation Arc would be sometime in 2027, though nothing is confirmed.
Crunchyroll streamed Season 5 internationally (outside Japan, China, and Korea) with both subtitles and an English dub, so international fans can reasonably expect similar coverage for Season 6. The source manga is published in English by Kodansha USA and is also available digitally through K Manga.
For now, the celebration illustration and the promise of cohabitation are all fans have to go on. Further details will follow on the anime's official site and the official X account @kanokari_anime.
