Hinata and Hoshiumi Finally Share the Frame

The new concept visual for Gekijōban Haikyu!! VS Chiisana Kyojin (Haikyu!! VS The Little Giant), revealed through Japanese entertainment news site Comic Natalie, puts Karasuno's Hinata and Kamomedai's Hoshiumi on the court of the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, the venue for the Spring High national tournament quarterfinals.

That staging tells fans of Haruichi Furudate's volleyball manga exactly which match they're getting. The film covers the Karasuno-Kamomedai quarterfinal, where Hinata runs into Hoshiumi: a small-statured ace who carries the "Little Giant" nickname, the same title held by the Karasuno player who made Hinata pick up volleyball in the first place. The visual keeps it simple: two short spikers sizing each other up on the sport's biggest domestic stage.

Where the Monsters Go Gets Its First Action Trailer

The special anime Haikyu!! Where the Monsters Go (Bakemono-tachi no Iku Tokoro) got the bigger content drop. Its new action trailer on TOHO animation's YouTube channel shows Fukurōdani ace Kōtarō Bokuto and Mujinazaka ace Wakatsu Kiryū trading spikes, with players from both schools in motion throughout. The trailer closes on a 2027 date card.

Alongside the footage, TOHO animation also released a teaser visual of the two aces and separate school visuals for Fukurōdani and Mujinazaka. The special adapts the Fukurōdani-Mujinazaka quarterfinal from the manga's final tournament arc, a matchup built entirely around Bokuto going up against another top-tier ace.

Two Quarterfinals, Same Day, Same Building

The two projects are more connected than a shared franchise logo. Both matches are Spring High quarterfinals played on the same day at the same venue, which is why they were announced as a pair back in December 2025.

Both also come from the same creative team: director and writer Susumu Mitsunaka, who helmed 2024's Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, returns for both, with Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Haikyu!!'s four TV seasons) once again handling the animation. The studio has produced every animated Haikyu!! project since the series' 2014 TV debut.

Looking Ahead

Both projects are slated for 2027, with the film headed to Japanese theaters and Where the Monsters Go set for broadcast. Specific dates haven't been announced, and there's no word yet on international distribution for either project.

In the meantime, the franchise is easy to catch up on outside Japan: Crunchyroll streams all four TV seasons of Haikyu!!, and Viz Media publishes Furudate's complete 45-volume manga in English.
