Ayanokoji's Story Continues at Lerche
The announcement came right as the credits rolled on Season 4's final episode. Japanese entertainment news outlet Oricon News reported that a 5th season is now in production, accompanied by a striking all-black key visual featuring series lead Kiyotaka Ayanokoji. No premiere date, staff changes, or story details have been confirmed.
Lerche has handled the anime adaptation since its 2017 debut, and Season 4 marked a creative refresh. Director Noriyuki Nomata took over, with Maki Kono on character design. The 16-episode season covered the first semester of the characters' second year at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School, the elite institution where class rankings determine everything from living allowances to basic privileges.
Season 4 opened strong with a 90-minute premiere event on April 1, releasing its first four episodes simultaneously before settling into weekly broadcasts through June 24.
A Franchise That Keeps Building Momentum
Classroom of the Elite is based on the light novel series by Shogo Kinugasa, published under KADOKAWA's MF Bunko J imprint. The series has crossed 8.4 million copies in circulation, and its anime has maintained a consistent presence on Crunchyroll's seasonal charts since Season 2 revived the property in 2022 after a five-year gap following the original 2017 season.
The anime's timeline tells a story of growing confidence in the IP. Season 1 aired in July 2017 as a single-cour run that left fans uncertain about a continuation. Five years passed before Season 2 arrived in July 2022, quickly followed by Season 3 in January 2024, which wrapped up the first-year arc. Season 4's April 2026 premiere continued that accelerated pace, and a same-day Season 5 confirmation suggests KADOKAWA sees a long runway ahead.
The source material supports that ambition. Kinugasa's light novel series spans over 30 volumes across three arcs (Year 1, Year 2, and the ongoing Year 3), giving the anime plenty of material before it risks catching up.
Looking Ahead
Season 5 has no release window, broadcast details, or confirmed staff yet. If the franchise maintains its recent cadence of roughly 18–24 months between seasons, a 2027 or early 2028 premiere would be a reasonable expectation, though that remains speculation.
Crunchyroll simulcast Season 4 with an English dub, and the platform is the likely home for Season 5 as well. Fans who want to read ahead can find Seven Seas Entertainment's English translation of Kinugasa's light novels, with the Year 2 volumes still in active release and Year 3 not yet licensed in English.
The new key visual keeps things minimal: Ayanokoji against a dark background, offering no hints about which portion of the second-year arc Season 5 will cover. More details will likely surface on the series' official site in the coming months.
