A Gundam Alumni Reunion at a Brand-New Studio

The Bugle Call marks the debut production for CA Soa, the anime studio CyberAgent launched in January 2025 under ex-Sunrise producer Masakazu Ogawa. That Sunrise pedigree is evident across the staff list.

Shinya Watada (Gundam Build Fighters Try, Gundam Build Divers) directs, with Michitaka Tsuchiya (土屋理敬) handling series composition. Character designs come from Michinori Chiba, whose credits include Gundam 00 and SK8 the Infinity. Concept designer Kanetake Ebikawa, the mechanical designer behind Gundam 00's Gundams and Full Metal Panic!'s Arm Slaves, rounds out a team clearly built to handle the manga's large-scale battle sequences.

Hitomi Kotō (湖東ひとみ) composes the score, a critical assignment for a series where music is baked into the combat system. CG production falls to Shirogumi, known for Stand By Me Doraemon and Lupin III: The First, while Hiroshi Arisawa serves as action animator.

A report on Japanese manga news site Comic Natalie accompanied the announcement with a teaser PV running just under four minutes, an unusually generous first look for a series still over a year from broadcast.

What The Bugle Call Is About

The Bugle Call is set in a medieval world dominated by nine colossal tower structures called Spires, remnants of an ancient civilization. Its protagonist, Luca, is a young bugler in a mercenary company who can literally see sound as lines of light. He dreams of becoming a musician, not a soldier.

When Luca awakens a supernatural ability known as "Branch-hex," his bugle calls gain the power to guide allies across the battlefield. A mysterious figure called the Pontiff draws him into a wider conflict involving others who share his abilities. The manga describes itself as a "military-music battle fantasy," and the premise delivers on that label: tactical combat driven by musical instruments rather than conventional weapons.

Original story creator Mozuku Sora (空もずく) and artist Higoro Tōmori (十森ひごろ) launched the series in Shueisha's Jump SQ. magazine in June 2022. The manga moved to the seasonal Jump SQ. RISE in April 2026 and has 13 collected volumes to date. According to Anime News Network's coverage, the story is heading toward its final battle.

Looking Ahead

The anime is confirmed for a 2027 TV broadcast, though no specific season or episode count has been announced. No voice cast has been revealed yet.

For readers who want to start before the anime airs, Viz Media publishes The Bugle Call in English, with the sixth volume released in April 2026. The manga is also available digitally through Shueisha's platforms.

The teaser PV is available on YouTube. No international streaming partner has been confirmed, but given CyberAgent's stated goal of building CA Soa for a global audience, distribution announcements will likely follow as the 2027 premiere approaches.
