Newly Drawn Art, Not Recycled Key Visuals
The draw here is the illustrations. Every item in the shop uses artwork commissioned specifically for this event, and the artwork puts Eren, Levi and the rest of the cast on a shopping trip instead of a battlefield. That matches both the venue and the shop's subtitle, "A GIFT FOR SOMEONE SPECIAL."
The lineup runs past 100 products. Acrylic stands come in four designs at ¥1,870 each, and a chibi-style Mini Character version comes in eight designs at ¥1,045 each. A Snap Photo Collection sells as random singles for ¥440 or as a complete eight-piece set for ¥3,520. Pouches are available in four designs at ¥1,980, a tote bag is ¥3,630, A5 clear files are ¥715, and marker keychains are ¥550 each or ¥4,400 for all eight.
The shop also runs a spending bonus. Every ¥2,000 spent, tax included, earns one random illustration card from a set of eight, so completing the set means at least ¥16,000 at the register and some luck.
A Basement in Shinjuku, Through Tuesday
The shop sits in the "on the Corner" space on the B1 floor of the Keio Department Store's Shinjuku branch, connected to Shinjuku Station. It opens daily from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., closes at 8 p.m. on Sundays, and shuts early at 5 p.m. on the final day. According to Japanese anime news site Anime Anime's report on the pop-up, this is the first time the TV anime has had a pop-up shop at Keio.
The series is in the middle of a dense run of tie-ins. Anime Anime's merchandise coverage from the past two weeks alone includes a collaboration with Karaoke Manekineko that brought drinks and merchandise on September 20, a first-time crossover with the gym chain chocoZAP on September 17, and a run of jiu-jitsu uniforms and boxing gloves themed on the Colossal and Beast Titans on September 13.
The Franchise Now Has an Officially Certified Day
Hajime Isayama serialized Attack on Titan in Kodansha's monthly Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from 2009 to 2021. The dark fantasy has been published in 18 languages across more than 180 countries, and cumulative manga circulation has passed 120 million copies worldwide.
The anime started in 2013 and closed out in 2023 with The Final Season's concluding chapters, which covered the last battle. MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man) handled The Final Season after Wit Studio produced the first three seasons, with Yuichiro Hayashi directing and Hiroyuki Sawano returning to compose.
This year the series also picked up formal recognition at home. Japan's Anniversary Association certified September 9, the date serialization began, as Attack on Titan Day. That puts the current wave of merchandise five years after the manga finished and three years after the anime did.
Looking Ahead
The pop-up closes at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29. Anime Anime's report lists no online storefront and no overseas shipping, so buying anything here means a trip to Shinjuku.
The bigger date is October 23, when Attack on Titan The Movie: Crimson Bow and Arrow returns to Japanese theaters in SCREEN X, 4DX and ULTRA 4DX. The film is the first half of the compilation pair that recut Season 1's 25 episodes, and the official site's announcement bills the run as the series' first SCREEN X presentation, with Linked Horizon's "Guren no Zahyo" as the theme song. The Last Attack, the theatrical cut of the finale, is lined up for the same formats in 2027. That announcement covers Japanese theaters only.
The series remains widely available in English. Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu all carry the anime, and Kodansha USA publishes the complete 34-volume manga.
