First Look at Eve Bolan, Season 2's Wild Card
The 2027 broadcast announcement arrived alongside a second teaser visual, reported by Japanese anime news site Anime Anime. The art shows traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence and the wise wolf Holo sharing a meal in a room somewhere along their journey, Holo flashing an innocent grin at his side. Behind the pair stands Eve Bolan (エーブ・ボラン), a merchant making her first appearance in the remake. The announcement reveals little about her, describing her only as "mysterious" and noting that her presence brings a quiet tension to an otherwise peaceful scene.
Novel readers already know the name. Eve plays a major role in Isuna Hasekura's original light novels, and an earlier version of the character appeared in Spice and Wolf II, the 2009 season of the first anime adaptation. The new announcement doesn't say which storylines Season 2 will cover, and no voice actor has been named for Eve yet.
The Season 1 Team Is Back at Passione
Season 2 was first announced in September 2024, shortly after the remake finished its 2024 broadcast run. The staff lineup carries straight over: chief directors Takeo Takahashi and Hijiri Sanpei return, with Nobuyoshi Nagayama and Takahiro Majima directing, Rina Sugimoto and Koji Haneda handling character designs, and Kevin Penkin once again composing the music. Animation production stays at studio Passione, working from Hasekura's novels and Jyuu Ayakura's original character designs.
On the cast side, Jun Fukuyama (Lelouch in Code Geass) and Ami Koshimizu (Ryuko Matoi in Kill la Kill) return as Lawrence and Holo, roles the two have voiced since the first Spice and Wolf anime back in 2008. Their continuity has been a defining feature of the remake, which re-adapts the novels from the beginning rather than continuing the older series.
20 Years and 10 Million Copies
The Spice and Wolf novels launched from KADOKAWA's Dengeki Bunko imprint after winning the Silver Prize at the 12th Dengeki Novel Prize, and the series marked its 20th anniversary in 2026. Worldwide circulation now tops 10 million copies, counting Japanese print and digital editions plus overseas print releases. The franchise is still expanding on the page, too, with the sequel series Spice and Wolf: Spring Log and the spinoff Wolf & Parchment continuing under Hasekura.
Looking Ahead
Season 2 airs in Japan sometime in 2027; a specific season and timeslot haven't been announced. International streaming plans for the new season also haven't been revealed, though Crunchyroll streamed the first season as it aired, including an English dub, so the remake is easy to catch up on in the meantime. The source novels are published in English by Yen Press. The next beats to watch for are Eve Bolan's voice actor and a firm premiere window.
