MAPPA Comes Back for One More Survey Corps Mission
The anime finale wrapped in 2023, but Attack on Titan isn't done with MAPPA yet. Koei Tecmo announced via Oricon News that MAPPA, the studio behind Attack on Titan The Final Season, will produce a brand-new opening animation for Attack on Titan 3, the action game developed by Omega Force. The sequence will be completely original animation, not recycled footage from the TV series.
There's a catch: the opening won't ship with the base game on launch day. Koei Tecmo confirmed it will be added through a post-launch update, with details to follow at a later date.
What Is Attack on Titan 3?
Revealed at Summer Game Fest 2026, Attack on Titan 3 is the franchise's first game in seven years, following Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle in 2019. Where previous entries covered portions of the story, this one spans the entire narrative, from the fall of Wall Maria to the final battle. The game features fights against all Nine Titans, new story content not seen in earlier installments, and a revamped ODM gear combat system that Koei Tecmo calls the most polished in the series.
The game is based on Hajime Isayama's manga, originally serialized in Kodansha's Bessatsu Shonen Magazine.
July 2 Livestream Will Show First Gameplay
Koei Tecmo has scheduled an official web program for July 2 at 7:00 AM JST to drop more details on the game. The broadcast will feature the world-first reveal of actual gameplay footage.
The program's guest lineup includes Yui Ishikawa (Violet Evergarden, 2B in NieR:Automata), who voices Mikasa, and Shiori Mikami, who voices Christa. Development producer Hideo Suzuki will provide commentary on the game's features.
Looking Ahead
Attack on Titan 3 launches July 1, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The game supports Japanese audio with text in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and Korean. No separate international release window has been announced, suggesting a simultaneous global launch.
The MAPPA opening animation will arrive as a free update after launch, though Koei Tecmo hasn't given a timeline yet.
